The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the nominations for the 2017 Oscars.
La La Land unsurprisingly leads the way with a record 14 nominations. Arrival, Hacksaw Ridge, and Manchester By the Sea also racked up numerous nominations.
The inclusion of more black actors is also notable, as it’s a clear response to last year’s accusations that the Academy Awards are inherently racist.
Unfortunately, this speedy turnaround means the question will linger as to whether these actors have been nominated on merit or as an act of positive discrimination.
Jimmy Kimmel will be hosting the 89th annual Academy Awards on February 26th.
