“A sprightly centenarian has revealed the secret to staying sharp in old age – playing VIDEO GAMES. Instead of knitting or playing bingo Kathleen Kit Connell, known as Kit, spends two hours a day tapping away at her favourite console.

And the grandmother-of-one, who still lives independently, said she has used the Nintendo DS Lite, so much she even wore out her first console and had to replace the computer.

Kit, who according to the game has the mental age of 64, said: “It’s absolutely super. I don’t feel a day over 80.”

Well done.

Laughed. So. Hard.

Okay, so some of these are funny not so much in a laughing way as in a ‘dude, yeah, that’s kind of funny’. But the ones that are hilarious make it worth the full seven and some minutes.

I’m not sure which one I love more – the sabertooth copter or the drunken swinging horse.

(Mind you goose neck soldier is pretty funny, too.)

Yahtzee is back with his best and worst games of 2011 that he, gasp, actually played.

With two games vying for the ‘worst game of 2011′ spot, Yahtzee seems to be losing his touch. A touch of pure hatred, that is.

I like Yahtzee with his sarcasm and Australian location, but I can’t say much more about that.

Sadly, I haven’t had the chance to play any of these games. Sad face. I’ve given up my console ways in favour of Plants vs. Zombies and other PC games.

I am a sad, sad soul.

I do, however, plan on purchasing Skyrim. So there.

If you ever needed proof that video games still have some way to go in order to be realistic, just watch this video. It shows someone taking an enemy aircraft down in an unusual manner.

Battlefield 3 is the latest in the Battlefield series of video games. It was released around the same time as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 but is actually a different style of game.

As well as the FPS elements, you can drive tanks around and fly jet aircraft above the battlefield. Which has led to some unusual ways of taking people down.

This guy ejects from his jet plane, pulls a rocket launcher out of somewhere, shoots an enemy aircraft down, and then climbs back into his seat. Chuck Norris would be proud.

This is the trailer video for Goldeneye 007: Reloaded, with added commentary from the guys behind Yogscast. I think it’s fair to say they’re impressed by the game.

Goldeneye 007: Reloaded is, as the name suggests, a re-imagining of the classic Bond game (still the best ever released) which appeared on the Nintendo 64 in the 1990s.

The game was released on the Wii in 2010 but has now also arrived on PS3 and Xbox 360. And it looks simply amazing. All the old gameplay elements are included, along with some new ones. And all wrapped up in glorious HD visuals.

I fully plan to buy Goldeneye 007: Reloaded at some point in the future. I’ll just wait until the price drops a little because that’s how I roll. I’m still playing Oblivion and Modern Warfare 2, after all.

This video shows the first trailer for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, a new game from Platinum Games with a less-than-snappy title.

The trailer for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was revealed exclusively during the Spike VGAs, but is now all over the Web. Understandable really, as this is an intriguing game.

Originally thought to be part of the Metal Gear Solid series, this is a standalone title starring a reborn Raiden. And it’s very different in style than any Metal Gear game to date.

Platinum Games is the developer responsible for Bayonetta, and many of its staff previously worked on the Devil May Cry series. So it’s no surprise to see a hack and slash style of gameplay being employed.

This is sure to sell well on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, but I can’t say it’s my thing, exactly.

There is a high probability you’ll have heard this song. Somewhere. You may not have recognized it but you will have heard it if you know anyone with any kind of mobile device.

This is the Angry Birds theme tune being covered by Pomplamoose. They are a California-based indie band who clearly have more talent in their right toes than I have in my whole body.

The video is clever because it shows the duo getting increasingly annoyed at each other to the point of starting a fight. It mirrors the plot of the game, which sees birds trying to destroy egg-stealing pigs.

This video has had around 3 million views, which is a not-insignificant number. However, Angry Birds have been downloaded hundreds of millions of times. So there is a much bigger audience out there waiting to hear this cover.

If you’re currently playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and quite frankly it seems as if most people are, then you may have experienced a feeling of deja vu a couple of time. There is a good reason for this.

Activision, and more specifically the game’s developer Treyarch, are accused of borrowing elements from previous games in the series, literally copying and pasting buildings from the old games and into the new game. As this video shows.

The question is does this actually matter? I’d say no, it really doesn’t. Most people aren’t sad enough to notice, and even if they do will probably just think, “Oh look, that’s a bit cheeky,” before moving on.

A bigger problem with the Call of Duty series is that it’s starting to feel a little old. What made the first Modern Warfare game so great is now dragging it down, because it’s essentially a remake every other year. Boring.

The next time you’re playing with Kinect on the Xbox 360 try to envision a new use for the technology. That’s what other people have done, and Microsoft has embraced them and their ideas.

This is a very clever piece of advertising from Microsoft. Not only does it sell the Kinect as a device for the Xbox 360 that can be used right here, right now, it also throws to the future.

We get to see what Kinect hackers have been up to and what they could potentially do with the hardware (or an improved version of it) as we go forward. It turns the Kinect into a piece of kit that could become essential in the years ahead.

One day motion control could be used in hospitals, clinics, schools, universities, recording studios, and more besides. Not bad for a relatively cheap gadget attached to a games console.

Rockstar looks to have done it again, delivering another slice of gaming heaven with Grand Theft Auto 5. Or is it too early to make such a statement after the first official trailer hits the Web?

It’s been three long years since GTA IV was released. OK, we’ve had Red Dead Redemption since then, a game which I actually enjoyed more than the latest in the Grand Theft Auto series, but still.

This trailer suggests much about what we can expect from Grand Theft Auto 5, with the setting of San Andreas – essentially Los Angeles in all but name – bringing the series back to the scene of its greatest triumph to date.

Rockstar hasn’t yet revealed when GTA V will be released, but Summer 2012 would seem to be a good bet. If it hasn’t arrived by next Christmas then I’ll be very surprised. And very disappointed as well.

If you’re about to release a video game full of adventure and treasure hunting then what is the best way of promoting it? Why, get Harrison Ford to play it on camera and comment, obviously.

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is the game in question, a PS3 exclusive title due out next week. And Harrison Ford was lucky enough to get a sneak peek of this much-anticipated title.

I can see what Sony Japan were going for here. Ford is Indiana Jones after all, and the Uncharted games are a clear homage to those films with a little Tomb Raider thrown in for good measure.

However, Ford clearly isn’t a gamer, and from the things he says it appears he hasn’t played a video game in about 20 years. Not that that necessarily matters, I guess, as this video is being watched by a lot of people. And that was the idea.

Rocksmith is a new video game that aims to push past the rhythm-action titles of old such as Guitar Hero and Rock Band. How? By removing the plastic instrument from the equation and letting you play the real thing.

For years we have been playing stupid plastic guitars. Yes, these games were fun, but in the back of your head there was always the feeling that you were wasting your time.

Rocksmith changes all that: you still get to have fun playing along to well-known songs on your PS3 and Xbox 360, but you can also use the software to learn to play the guitar. For real. Which is awesome.

This video offers an entertaining demonstration of how Rocksmith works. The game pegs your skill level and helps you improve at your own pace. The ultimate goal being to be able to play each song unaided. Genius.

Sometimes the most fun elicited from a video game isn’t what the developers had in mind when they were designing said title. In other words, simple things please simple minds.

RAGE is a mixture of Fallout and Motorstorm, with first-person shooting action interlaced with driving and racing sections. All set in a Mad Max-inspired dystopian, post-apocalyptic world.

This video shows the best thing you can do in the game: drive your ATV at speed into rocks and barriers and enjoy watching your little guy go flying. He also screams in an ear-splitting cacophony of Oooohs and Aaaahs.

I’m sure this isn’t the best thing about RAGE. The game has, in fact, received stellar reviews from a variety of sources. But who can resist the lure of a bone-crunching landing? Not me.

I defy any gamer not to laugh at this video of some guy with a strange accent trying and failing to beat what has to be the hardest video game in the world. Ever.

This game is like an old-skool Super Mario title but with a badly-animated cat as the lead character. Otherwise all the elements are there, except for the fairness and ability to actually beat the game.

I’ve actually worked out what is going on. After every time this guy dies, his number of lives increases. So rather than giving you three lives and telling you to reach the end of the level, you have to get to the end of the level using as few lives as possible.

Still, that doesn’t mean this is going to be fun to play. I hate difficult or frustrating games at the best of times, and this scores heavily on both counts. Even more so than Dark Souls.

A great battle is approaching. On one side we have Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and on the other we have Battlefield 3. But which will take the ‘Best Shooter of 2011′ crown?

This video shows Battlefield 3 running on a high-end PC, and it’s far to say it looks great. If all gamers had plenty of money then we’d all play using these settings. Unfortunately we don’t.

Battlefield 3 is also being released on the PS3 and Xbox 360, but the visuals won’t be quite as impressive. The big question is how the game will rank alongside the latest Call of Duty game?

Modern Warfare has taken the top spot on previous occasions, but while Modern Warfare 3 is more of the same, Battlefield 3 has ratcheted things up a few notches. This is going to be one bloody battle.

Sonic Generations is a brand new Sonic The Hedgehog title from Sonic Team and Sega. It is being released on the PS3, Xbox 360, and 3DS this side of Christmas. And it looks absolutely brilliant.

I’ve always been a fan of the Sonic games, much preferring them, and the character itself, to Mario. They’re faster-paced, more inventive, and just much, much more fun than the Nintendo alternative.

This new game, titled Sonic Generations, sees Sonic battling his way through history, which means we get to see new versions of levels from the whole series. Players can choose to be Classic Sonic or Modern Sonic, with 2D and 3D versions of all the levels.

I love this idea, and it should shut those people up who have complained about the direction the Sonic games have taken of late. If they don’t like it then they can just switch back and be old-skool once more. Everyone’s a winner!

Making video games used to be so simple, to the point at which people designed and programmed them at home in their bedrooms. Now, they’re multi-million productions to rival big-budget movies.

The problem is that even the largest team of game developers are going to miss something in production. And the army of Q&A testers will likely miss a few bugs or performance issues before the game is released. As can be seen here.

This video shows someone testing the police in Mafia 2. It’s fair to say the cops fall a little short in terms of intelligence.

First they allow a criminal to hide behind a fisherman. Then they let him get away with pushing said fisherman into the water. After the cops on foot are also pushed in then several squad cars arrive only to drive straight into the drink. Oops.

This is a video review of Dead Island, a new video game on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, by PlayrBitz. The game is out today in the U.S. with a European and Japanese release to follow.

This guy seems to like Dead Island, but I have to say I’m not convinced. Haven’t we seen this all before? There doesn’t seem to be anything particularly fresh or innovative on show here.

It’s like an amalgamation of Dead Rising, Left 4 Dead, and Borderlands. While all three of those games are highly playable, why would you want a title that copies elements from each and throws them together randomly?

At the end of the day I don’t like survival horror games, which is the genre Dead Island fits into. Call me a wuss but I don’t like the feeling of fighting for my own life, whether it be for real, in a dream, or in a video game.

Summer may be drawing to a close, which sucks, but it does mean we’re about to enter into the golden time of the year for gamers. The next few months are going to see the best games of the year released in the run up to Christmas.

Starting with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, for which this is the multiplayer trailer.

This is one of the best trailers for a video game I have ever seen. It shows off the visuals and the different styles of gameplay superbly. Sure, there is very little actual in-game footage, but that doesn’t matter too much.

Modern Warfare faces stiff competition for the hearts and minds of gamers from Battlefield 3, which brings vehicles and aircraft into the equation. It’s going to be a tough fight between the two, but Call of Duty has certainly come out fighting.

This is the IGN video review of Madden 12, the latest installment in the long-running series of football simulations. But as a new game is released each and every year, is Madden 12 actually any different than the previous few titles?

Apparently it is, slightly. The visuals have been given a makeover, as usual. But a new lick of paint alone won’t be enough to make people buy Madden 12. So there are a few gameplay tweaks and new features included as well.

From reading the reviews one thing shines through: that Madden 12 is more for fans of the sport than gamers. Which is a good thing. But it also means those who have no interest in football will leave it well alone.

Madden 12 is out now in North America, and released worldwide next month. If you’re a fan of football, or American football as the rest of the world calls it, then you cannot really go wrong with this game. Otherwise, don’t bother.
