You can keep your cheerful carolers singing whimsical songs about winter wonderlands and holly jolly Christmases. What the season needs is a bit more edge, and the creator of this festive lights show is only too happy to oblige.

A Slayer soundtrack, a menacing looking snowman, and some rocking devil horns make this one of the more memorable Christmas displays I’ve seen. It’s far from traditional, but the synchronized lights are incredibly well designed.

I’m not sure what the rest of the neighborhood thinks. I imagine it might be the kind of place that conservative parents usher their children past quickly. But I think this house rocks!

Most home shows focus on sprawling spaces fitted out with luxurious features. But I’m much more impressed when someone can take a small space and make it livable. This video shows us the way a New York architect lives in his 78-square-feet apartment.

Luke Clark Tyler can turn his living room to a bedroom just by dropping down the couch. His home office also doubles as a kitchen, and the closet isn’t too far away.

I can’t imagine ever living in such a tiny space, but I have to tip my hat to him. He’s the one enjoying that $800 a month rent in one of New York’s most desirable districts after all!

What would you do if a giant hole formed underneath your bed suddenly and inexplicably? Assume it’s a gateway to Hell, obviously.

This video is a bit crap, let’s be honest. It just shows a couple of stills of the sinkhole. But it’s the best there is on YouTube so we’ll have to make do. It certainly doesn’t make the story any less compelling.

A 65-year-old woman heard a loud boom and discovered that this explosion of sound was as a result of a sinkhole forming under her bed. A sinkhole that is 32-inches in diameter and 40-feet deep.

This is actually a fairly small sinkhole, as sinkholes go. Some are hundreds of meters across and have swallowed whole buildings in a matter of seconds. Scary stuff. But still. Under your bed? That’s mortifying.

This video shows us every man’s ultimate dream: an absolutely ginormous garage.

That statement uses some pretty big descriptive adjectives, but it can’t fully convey just how big this garage is. It’s massive, a monster, insanely large. The kind of space meant for a convoy of muscle cars, or a lifetime of hoarding.

Don’t adjust your computer though. This video has no sound, but it’s not like it needs commentary. The video footage really speaks for itself, and it should be enough to get any red-blooded man hot under the collar.

Now just where do I buy one of these?

While everyone else in his neighborhood was packing their bags for the “White River Flood” that hit Arkansas last week, one man decided to stick it out and build a moat and dike around his property.

The fact that this plan worked is pretty amazing. It just goes to show you that determination and a simple idea can prevent tragedy.

Sure, this project must have taken a week of man-hours and thousands of dollars to do- but it sure as hell was worth it! Not only did this save a very expensive house from being destroyed, but it’s also one of the most inspiring things I’ve seen.

I can’t wait to see how this same family handles a zombie attack.

We’ve seen some small homes here on WebTVHub, but this Barcelona loft is one of the coolest. Christian Schallerton has used some interesting design techniques to make the most of his one-room, 258 square foot space.

He was inspired by a mix of boat design and Zen principles to create his space which offers more than meets the eye. Behind clickable panels there’s a fridge, a stove, and even a dishwasher.

A bed rolls out from under the balcony, and his stairs double as bedside tables. It’s enough to think that I could happily downsize, if I only had Christian to show me how it’s done!

Freecycle is a little-known, but very handy website where members can give away their unwanted stuff, or gain something they need for free.

The site started as a Yahoo Group that simply expanded into a huge phenomenon that exists in almost every state in the US and even parts of the UK.

As you can tell by this video, FreeCycle is kind of like eBay or Craigslist, but a more exclusive community that doesn’t deal with money. Overall, it’s a great site for people on a budget or who are moving to another place to live.

The only bad thing that I’ve heard is that your membership to the site can be revoked at anytime for suspicious reasons- so don’t be too greedy folks!

If you’re a member of a typical Chinese family in Hong Kong, chances are you share less than 400 sq feet with 3 people. In fact, living alone is something that comes after a property has been handed down from at least one generation.

Take this Chinese architect, for example, who finally got his own apartment as an adult and basically went crazy remodeling it…

I don’t know about the other homes featured in this “World’s Greenest Homes” special, but Gary Chang deserves to be at the top of the list simply for all of the trouble he went through to have this home. Not only did he enroll in school to become an architect, but he must have spent a fortune on the revisions.

As a college student living in a small room myself, I often daydream of a bigger place to live. Knowing that innovative architecture like this exists gives mes hope for the future.

They say that a man’s home is his castle, but none of us live in anything quite as royal as the home featured in this news story. The 27-storey home of this Indian business tycoon is believed to be the only one in the world worth a whopping one billion dollars.

This home offers the level of luxury beyond the wildest dreams of most mere mortals. I’d be impressed with one helipad, but this house has three. There’s also a ballroom, a movie theatre, a gym, and a dance studio.

This is the kind of family home that could make a household much stronger. Petulant teenagers or parents craving privacy could so easily lose themselves in all those rooms!

In this world there are cat people and there are dog people … and there are the ones that take things a few steps too far like Bob and Frances.

This kooky American couple has converted their home into a shrine to cats known as The Cat House. Every square inch of the place is covered in kitty themed knickknacks, at least the spaces which don’t have toys for their real-life moggies.

The crowning glory of the space is the catwalk, a sky high path which allows the kitties to run from room to room high above the action below. It’s a real feat of modern architecture and, just like everything else about The Cat House, more than a little bit weird.

This video, from James May’s Toy Stories, is one of the coolest I’ve ever seen. It sees everyone’s childhood dreams realized with the creation of an adult-sized Lego house.

These digs are so big that it can comfortably hold a family on its two levels.

Of course, Lego houses have their limitations. A Lego chair isn’t the sturdiest piece of furniture, and the Lego whisk is prone to breaking. But the novelty factor surely outweighs those flaws.

I’m not sure I’d get the best night’s rest on that hard Lego bed, but I still think I’d be pretty happy waking up to those multicolored bricks!

Jay Shafer is the man behind what’s now known as “The Small Living Movement” that’s going on across America. In our struggling economic times, many are changing their ways of living and cutting down on costs.

Perhaps one of the greatest examples of super-saving is the “tiny houses” that Jay Shafer’s company builds. All of which are under 150 sq. feet of space.

At first, I thought this idea was completely amazing. No property tax? No utility bills? No vacuuming?! It sounds like a dream come true. But when Jay actually makes a tour of the house, I get a bit claustrophobic. The shower/bathroom seems uncomfortable and the fact that their isn’t any A/C makes it unattractive.

If I were to compare this to any mobile home on the market, it would obviously blow it out of the water. That being said, these babies go for about $50,000 a pop and don’t come with any land. Are they really worth it or just fancy trailers? You be the judge.

Prefab, or prefabricated, homes are built, shipped and put together on the piece of land of your choice heaps faster than traditional building – and it’s more affordable, too!

While you don’t have quite the range of choice with prefab houses as you might with building your own house, you could end up saving thousands by going the prefab route.

How do I know? Prefab houses have been introduced to Australia, and my husband and I are looking at buying.

Instead of waiting six months (for a small, rush job) up to a year for your house, you could be living in it in less than than the minimum build time.

Sounds good to me!

It’s fair to say there’s a debate raging at the moment about how true climate change is and, more tellingly, how much of an impact humanity is having on the planet.

Whatever you believe, it’s not hard work to do what you can to try and help the environment, and that goes for Christmas as well. So here are seven simple ways of being green over the holidays.

Some of these tips are common sense, such as being more picky about the food you buy and using less resources such as cards, wrapping paper, and napkins.

Some are a little more extreme, such as giving less gifts and giving gifts that are geared toward a greener future. It’s probably not a bad idea to lessen the commercialism of Christmas but it’ll take a while for people to adapt to the idea.

Although a tree may be the focal point of a house at Christmas, there are many other ways in which to decorate your home and give it a festive feel. Whether it be advent calendars, or candles, or Santa and snowman toys, your house can be a winter wonderland without too much effort.

And let’s not forget the snow globe, a beautiful decoration that can intrigue children and warm the cockles of even the most humbug adult.

The problem is that good snow globes can be expensive to buy. So why not make your own instead? It’s not something I’ve ever thought of doing but it’s actually a lot easier than I thought it would be.

The fact at the end of this video intrigues me because I’m wondering how they shook that two-storey high, 20-foot wide snow globe in Canada. They must have either employed a giant, hired a crane, or used Christmas magic.

Humans have a habit of thinking they are control of nature, when the reality is that even the common potato is controlling you…

I would definitely like to watch this entire video because, at the moment, it seems to be a bit of a chicken and egg argument.

Are tulips beautiful so humans will harvest them or do humans harvest them because they are beautiful.

The answer is likely along the lines of: tulips are beautiful because florists have been breeding them for specific qualities for years.

Do humans really have nature control issues or does the potato simply serve as a dependable vegetable?

(That might be yes on both counts.)

To be certain, this is going to be an interesting documentary.

This is why power lines and trees don’t mix.

Watch in amazement as a giant tree that took decades to grow is burnt to a crisp within a matter of minutes.

This clip is almost like a scene out of a world-destruction movie. First, the tree doesn’t seem to be too bothered by the electric current- it’s quite entertaining actually. Within a matter of seconds, however, it quickly catches fire.

When the explosion comes at the 1:37 mark it seems like it’s all over. Then, out of nowhere, another one emerges at the very end of the video to everyone’s surprise. I’ll even admit, I jumped back at the second surge.

In this video, a demonstration is given of a fairly common situation – baby on floor with power plug near by – that is made a lot safer by the smart house programming.

As parents of young ones know, it is only too easy for baby to get into trouble once he or she starts crawling. There are heaps of hazards all around any house.

Of course, you could always save hundreds – perhaps millions – of dollars by getting the power switches that are fairly standard around Australia that can be turned off and on as well. Easy.

Then again, this is hardly the only awesome feature to the smart house. This is only chapter one…

It doesn’t take a genius to realize that this guy is sawing the wrong part of the tree. Needless to say, he got what he deserved when it nearly crushes his house in this video.

And the wife freaking out doesn’t make it any better…

You can’t see the man’s face from the video, but I’m pretty sure it’s one of absolute shock. If you look closely at the tree, you can clearly see that it’s slanting toward the house. Why he decided to take a chainsaw to the side near his house is still a mystery to me.

The lady yelling (who I’m a assuming is his wife) over exaggerates that he took out “half the house” when in reality is was only the porch. Still, I don’t know many women that wouldn’t be screaming their heads off in this situation.

According to these sex education specialists and scientists, 90% of men and 70% of women admit to routinely pleasuring themselves. Even fetuses have been caught masturbating.

Sadly, I know a few orthodox Christians who wouldn’t approve of the latter fact.

This clip, like most segments from the show Penn and Teller: Bullshit, does a great job of balancing it’s educational and comedic value. Since we humans are mammals, it’s important to remember that masturbation is a natural bodily function.

While I don’t necessarily want to hear an old grey-haired lady talk about her sex life, the trade off at the 2:34 mark was well worth it. The best advice/quote from the whole video has to be: “You always know that your having sex with somebody you love.”

Maybe someone should tell that to the pro-abstinence lady at the end of the clip.
