While it can be a giggle-worthy topic when you first hear about it – and Cenk doesn’t always help – this does have some very serious implications for Japan.

Maybe they’ll do what they did in Australia and start handing out baby bonuses.

According to wikipedia, the largest known whale shark was 41.5 ft in length- the one that was found in Pakistan today was 40 ft.

The unconscious whale was sighted 10 days ago along the coast, and it wasn’t until today that it was pulled out with 5 cranes.

The sharks are illegal to hunt in India and it was stated in the local Karachi newspaper that the whale was already dead when it was pulled out of the water.

Pardon my pun, but something seems fishy to me about this story.

This video shows The Young Turks reporting on the ruling that Prop 8 has been ruled unconstitutional. This guy, Cenk Uygur, talks a lot of sense on the subject.

According to the panel of three judges, Prop 8 “violated the Equal Protection clause of the 14th Amendment,” as it “serves no purpose, and has no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in California, and to officially reclassify their relationships and families as inferior to those of opposite-sex couples.”

What’s flabbergasting is that this is far from over. You’d think that once something had been ruled as unconstitutional that would be that. After all, the constitution is revered absolutely in the U.S. But no.

There will still likely be an appeal to this ruling, and until all due process is followed through this will not come into effect. So gay couples in California will have to wait a little longer before getting wed. Shameful.

Josh Powell, a person of interest in the 2009 disappearance of his wife Susan, and his two sons were killed today in a house explosion that is suspected to be a murder suicide.

The evidence that the explosion at the Powell household was intentional just keeps piling up as police have found gallons of gasoline dousing their home.

‘Final goodbye’ emails from Josh to various family and friends seem to have sealed the case as a deliberate murder suicide.

People around the world who have heard this news story are no doubt in shock, their hearts breaking for those two little boys.

You’re right, it didn’t. Keyboard Cat wasn’t present during President Obama’s inaugural Google Plus hangout. But I wish he had have been. Thanks to the power of Conan and video-editing software, Keyboard Cat made an appearance.

Roseanne Barr is officially running to become the Green Party nominee for the 2012 Presidential election. She had joked about it, and most people probably think she’s kidding, but apparently not.

If you were to vote for Barr what would you get? She’s known to be very liberal and keen on green issues. She has also supported the Occupy Wall Street movement from day one.

While I don’t particularly want that loud-mouthed idiot to be President of the United States, it would be amazing to see her elected. Can you imagine the look on the faces of the other candidates? Especially the Republicans.

Let’s be honest, Barr will not become president. She probably won’t even be voted in as the official candidate for the Green Party. But good on her for going through with the laborious process needed to get to this stage.

Yep. That Roseanne.

I must admit that this one caught me by surprise because I didn’t know we were talking about the Roseanne from the television show until I started snooping around for videos.

Only then did I realise that I had never known her surname.

Live and learn.

Anyway, Roseanne is running for the Green Party seat, even though she doesn’t expect to win. That smacks of ‘getting some attention for my political party’, ‘I’m bored’, or even both.

Whatever it is, I can’t help but wish her well with it. Though her campaign dreams are certainly a high reach, at least she’s aiming big.

A few days ago, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, who is the largest breast cancer organization in the United States, announced that they would cut funding from Planned Parenthood.

Well, after an overwhelmingly negative reaction, they have decided against their original “not politically motivated” decision.

Komen originally stated that they were cancelling their funding because Planned Parenthood was “under investigation” of some sort, but which organization was doing the “investigating?” It’s no secret that their new VP is a pro-life Republican and the head of the organization was formally working for the Bush Administration.

I have to agree with the women interviewed in this video, “I can’t understand why a women’s health organization funding women’s health is trying to take that away from another [one].”

This video shows Punxsutawney Phil, nothing more than an overstuffed rodent, predicting six more weeks of winter during the 2012 version of the annual Groundhog Day. Forever immortalized in the film of the same name.

It’s a shame it’s such a colossal waste of time really.

I guess it’s no worse than some of the old traditions I see in the U.K. Like, I don’t know, having a pointless monarchy, changing the guard at Buckingham Palace, and opening parliament every year. But still.

The sad thing about the whole Groundhog Day phenomenon is people actually seem to believe Punxsutawney Phil has anything to do with it. He doesn’t, he’s merely there for show.

What actually happens is a group of old men sit around looking at the weather forecast. How dull. And even then they often get it wrong.

McDonald’s, Burger King and Taco Bell have all announced – very quietly, mind you – that they will be pulling the ‘pink slime’ component from their hamburger meat.

And it doesn’t have anything to do with Jamie Oliver. No, really.

Apparently, using ammonium nitrate on scrap meat makes it into a pink goo that is then used to extend meat products like chicken and beef. Oh, and to kill bacteria.

And perhaps kill your children, too.

Okay, I am being a little alarmist, but the things they do to food these days to ‘extend shelf life’ is horrible. There is a lot to be said for growing your own and cooking at home.

For some reason, FOX news likes to occasionally blame Hollywood for pushing a “liberal” agenda. This time, it’s the good ‘ol Muppets!

I find it hilarious that being “Green” and watching things like ‘Cars 2′ and ‘Captain Planet’ is now considered brainwashing.

In my opinion, having the evil character being an oil tycoon, is pretty realistic and relevant. Eventually, one host says, these kids grow up to be like the 99% protestors- all be cause they “have been indoctrinated.”

Being educated on conserving the environment shouldn’t be criticized, it’s hard enough to get kids to simple things like take showers instead of baths.

Trisomy is a genetic disorder that gives a child an extra copy of the 18th chromosome. Rick Santorum left the campaign trail to be with his family and to be with his daughter, Bella, who has the condition.

I tend to not like politicians for the most part because they lie, cheat and don’t seem to give a damn about anything. But then, every now and then, one comes along and shows a bit of heart.

I can’t imagine the responsibility of having a child, let alone having a child with special needs.

As much as he says here that he pushed her away in his heart, he’s showing now that he’s willing to do what he needs to do to help her.

I’ve been keeping up with Colton Harris-Moore for the past couple of years since the Facebook page was created- he’s definitely like a real-life “Catch Me If You Can.”

But it seems that his 8-year crime-spree is now at an end due to his capture in the Bahamas.

I understand why the man interviewed in this video would say that Colton is “lucky,” but I would have to disagree. Living on your own since the age of 7 would probably make this guy a lot smarter than the average teenager.

I’m glad that all the money from the movie and book deal he’s gotten will be given back to the people he stole from in the first place.

Be it seizure, stress, eating disorder, drug abuse or all of the above, Demi Moore is seeking professional help after being admitted to hospital.

At least she seems to be taking her exhaustion – and everything that contributed to her being in that state – seriously, having dropped out of an upcoming film.

I don’t know that anyone is really going to be all that surprised about this. Going through divorce is never easy, and celebrities have access to a lot more things to take their pain away.

Let’s just hope that she takes the time off to rest and recollect herself before stepping into the spotlight again.

Let’s raise a glass to the world’s weather presenters. They might not be on the front line of war zones or in the middle of riots, but their job comes with its own hazards. After braving Sydney’s storms, that’s something that Australia’s Sarah Cumming knows all too well.

One moment Sarah is insisting she looks like a drowned rat while she’s smiling at us, with barely a blonde hair out of place. Then after a few of the standard weather graphics, she’s soaked to the skin.

That secure shelter that was intended to keep her dry wasn’t so stable at all, and soon she’s bearing the brunt of that wooly weather. To her credit she barely misses a beats. Hats off to you Sarah!

I’m not going to claim to have watched the 2012 State of The Union in full. I’m British, and contrary to popular belief in the U.S., the world does not revolve around the United States. We’ve all got our own crap going on.

One line I did hear was how apparently the war in Iraq has made the United States “safer and more respected around the world.” Really? Er, I wouldn’t be so sure about either of those points, Mr. President.

Reviews of how Obama fared giving the 2012 State of The Union Address range from awe-inspiring to truly terrible, depending on which side of the political fence the reviewers reside.

There are a number of out-dated laws still in effect and being enforced, one of which is actually dancing at a national memorial. After one woman was arrested for dancing, a group of five people decided to come back and protest…

While a lot of people would like to side with the police and ask, “Why the hell would you dance at the Jefferson memorial?” the better question is, “Why can’t you?” As long as you’re not harming anyone I don’t see why you deserve to be choked.

I’m pretty sure there are better ways of serving the public than policing where people shake their hips.

Tracy Morgan clearly isn’t a well man. The 30 Rock actor recently collapsed after an awards ceremony and was rushed to hospital.

Just before his collapse Morgan had received an award from the Creative Coalition at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. Park City has an elevation of 7,000 feet.

Morgan was diagnosed with diabetes in 1996, but refused to change his lifestyle in order to ease the condition. Then in 2010, Morgan received a kidney transplant.

The hospital has unequivocally stated that no drugs or alcohol was found in Morgan’s system. Instead his collapse is being blamed on a combination of exhaustion and altitude sickness.

Gabrielle Giffords’ name skyrocketed in to popularity a year ago when an assassination attempt left her with a shot to the head, six people dead and twelve others wounded.

“Today, Gabrielle is proving once again that she is a true public servant — putting the needs of her constituents ahead of her own,” said Israel (D-Dix Hills), who represents the 2nd Congressional District in New York, in the statement.

Here’s a tip for all of you, especially if you regularly appear on television: If you don’t know the meaning of something, don’t blithely blurt it out in front of millions of viewers.

This is BBC weather girl Carol Kirkwood, who is clearly an innocent flower who doesn’t get out much. While preparing to tell us the weather at the end of last year, she inadvertently said something very rude.

It was a wet day, you see, and she happened to mention live on air that someone had tweeted describing it as “wetter than an otter’s pocket.” Think about that for just a second…

… there you go. It’s a euphemism for a lady’s privates, as anyone who picks up on innuendo (such as I do) could have told her without a second’s thought. Unfortunately the BBC crew must be wetter behind the ears than an otter’s pocket.
