Jimmy Kimmel likes to issue pranks to his viewers from time to time. The last I saw was his instruction to parents to pretend they had eaten all their kids’ Halloween candy. And he’s at it again.

This time Kimmel asked viewers to pull the plug, turn the TV off, or switch channels at an important moment during the Super Bowl. And record the resulting mess for us all to laugh over, obviously.

I find this video especially hilarious as I do not understand the level of interest some people have in sports. Support a team, fine. Go to a game, fine. But sit around focused on the TV as if life itself depends on it? Sad.

While most of the football fans featured take it well, several resort to violence. And I find that especially saddening. A football game is so important to you that you’re happy to injure someone who interrupts it? Get a life.

This video shows Kelly Clarkson singing the U.S. national anthem to open the 2012 Super Bowl between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots.

This performance is either laughable or boring, depending on your tastes. What it most certainly isn’t is good. In any way, shape, or form.

For starters the U.S. national anthem is treated with such reverence, with people looking to the skies and holding their hand to their hearts, that I always end up giggling.

As for Clarkson, she delivered the lines without drama (boring) but then added her own little vocal riffs toward the end (laughable). And all from a woman who was discovered on one of Simon Cowell’s crap talent shows.

No, you aren’t seeing things. That is two old men fighting on stage in front of an assembled crowd. I really hope Joe Kapp and Angelo Mosca are ashamed of their actions.

Kapp claims this wasn’t his fault, and that he was offering a flower to Mosca as a peace offering. Oh shut up you absolute idiot. Kapp started it, finished it, and wouldn’t let it go.

He didn’t need to bring a flower in the first place. This was over an on-the-field incident that happened 48 years ago, so I’m sure Mosca wasn’t sat there hoping for some crappy meeting of the minds between the two former footballers.

In the full video you get to see the aftermath, with both Kapp and Mosca addressing the fight. Kapp tries to defend himself and closes by joking he called his dog Angelo and kicked the shit out of him on a regular basis. What a douchebag.

I must admit, I don’t know anything about sports. But I’m pretty sure a football coach shouldn’t bench a player for scoring too many touchdowns. However that’s just what happened to sweet natured Arkansas running back Demias Jimerson.

It’s all down to something called the Madre Hill Rule which looks to make things fairer for everyone. But since when is sport about leveling the playing field? Surely a star like this deserves to shine!

To his credit Demias seems to be taking it all in his stride. Perhaps that’s because he knows next year he can score as many touchdowns as he likes!

I’m not sure I could ever run 99-yards, let alone doing so after catching a spinning ball fired at high velocity, and with some huge guys chasing me down while no doubt shouting obscenities at the back of my head.

I must admit I’m not a huge fan of football (or American football as it’s called over here in sunny ol’ England). But even I have to admire this amazing touchdown scored by Wes Welker of the New England Patriots.

99-yard touchdowns are rare, the last one coming in 2008. This one by Wes Welker is just the 12th in NFL history, which is one of the reasons people are raving about it the day after it happened.

The other reason is that Welker is a possession receiver, primarily used as a pair of steady hands to gain the first down. Which means 99-yard touchdowns are hardly their forte. Welker will be able to dine out on this for the rest of his career.

This is the IGN video review of Madden 12, the latest installment in the long-running series of football simulations. But as a new game is released each and every year, is Madden 12 actually any different than the previous few titles?

Apparently it is, slightly. The visuals have been given a makeover, as usual. But a new lick of paint alone won’t be enough to make people buy Madden 12. So there are a few gameplay tweaks and new features included as well.

From reading the reviews one thing shines through: that Madden 12 is more for fans of the sport than gamers. Which is a good thing. But it also means those who have no interest in football will leave it well alone.

Madden 12 is out now in North America, and released worldwide next month. If you’re a fan of football, or American football as the rest of the world calls it, then you cannot really go wrong with this game. Otherwise, don’t bother.

Referring to this as “a continuity problem” really isn’t doing it justice. This is a phenomenal mess-up, a gaffe of epic proportions. And I can’t believe it made it into the final film.

Wildcats is a movie from 1986 which sees Goldie Hawn play a football coach, and Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson make early appearances as players.

This clip from the film shows the moment number 89 goes on a bit of a run, cutting his way through the opposition’s defense. That black guy is a really good player. But wait, he’s not black any more, he’s a very white Woody Harrelson!

This is shameful. I mean, I understand the need to have a stand-in actually playing instead of the actor, but couldn’t they find one of the same skin color? Geez.

If there is a better continuity blooper around than this one from Wildcats I have yet to see it.

It turns out there is at least one talented member of a football team. And when his talents are demonstrated with trick shots it makes for a truly amazing video.

Being English I’ve never really understood the appeal of American football, or football as Americans call it. It’s a sport that stops and starts constantly, and that relies heavily on big men wearing big gay suits of armor.

However, this video has piqued my interest and made me more aware of the skill that is required for some aspects of the sport. namely the quarterbacks and the kickers. Everyone else on the team still sucks.

The guy in the video, Johnny Mac, is surely destined for the NFL. Although I did wonder while watching this how many takes each stunt required. I’m guessing very few were achieved on the first attempt.

I don’t know a great deal about football, the American variety at least, but even I can see this is a fantastic touchdown, and one which saw the Philadelphia Eagles beat the New York Giants 38 – 31.

The man responsible for the winning punt return touchdown was DeSean Jackson, who ran the ball 65-yards to score. This was the first time a player has ended a game in this way.

He was ably assisted by his teammates, one of whom, Jason Avant, was knocked unconscious blocking Zak DeOssie. Which was a necessary step to allow Jackson to score.

This touchdown marked an incredible comeback for the Eagles, as they were 21 points down at the start of the final half of the last quarter. One for the scrapbooks, methinks.

The Giants versus the Vikings game has had to be moved after tons of snow broke through the roof of the Minneapolis Metrodome and spilled onto the field below. The cost of the damage has yet to be quoted.

Even people who aren’t big fans of US football will be remembering this for a time to come. Part of Minnesota have truly been dumped on with one of the biggest snowfalls on record.

But, the football must go on, apparently. The Vikings Giants game to Monday night at 7:20 p.m. Eastern at Ford Field.

But I think more people are keeping an eye out for what the price tag on this is going to be…

I seriously doubt that this type of play would work in the NFL, but i’m glad it worked out for these kids.

The opposing team must be training for revenge right now- the fact that a play like this worked is just embarrassing!

I’m not one to read carefully into the official rules of any sport, and this video is no exception. For all I know the refs could have not counted the touchdown, nevertheless, it makes a killer viral video. Driscoll Middle School must be proud!

Even attempting this play takes balls of steal, after all, now that everyone knows this trick they can never use it again.

The Super Bowl is as American an event as you can get. It practically oozes stars and stripes and I’m afraid to say no one else in the world really gives a crap about it. However, the Super Bowl was invaded by the Brits yesterday, as The Who played the halftime show.

This video is, unfortunately, only half the show but look hard enough on YouTube and you’ll find the rest. This does give a good flavor of the set however, which took the form of a medley of The Who’s greatest hits.

The Who now comprise Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend, with Zak Starkey on drums. Starkey is Ringo Starr’s son and was taught to play the drums by both his dad and former Who sticksman Keith Moon.

American football may be one of the dullest sports in the world but at least the halftime show at the Super Bowl was entertaining.

Sports fans all around the world are glued to their televisions waiting to discover you will take home this year’s Superbowl. Will victory belong to the Indianapolis Colts or the New Orleans Saints?

Honestly, I’m a rugby league loving Australian so I don’t really care. But I might get interested in the game if it were directed by some of Hollywood’s finest visionaries.

This video helps us imagine what it might be like if these cinematic greats took the reins. I expected a lot more blood in Tarantino’s adaptation, but I guess the goriest parts don’t suit a trailer! Wes Anderson’s take predictably sucks me in too with its indie cool cred.

The real game might not interest me, but these clips have shown me Superbowl’s potential.

OK, so this video isn’t the Tim Tebow Super Bowl ad, mainly because that hasn’t been released yet. Instead, this is a bald man standing up for Tebow, his mom, CBS (which is due to air the ad), and the group bankrolling it.

The U.S. is such a divided country it’s hard to ever see it being united in the way it purports to be. Just one such example of a division is the pro-life/pro-choice divide, which supporters of both sides being very hard-line in their beliefs.

That’s why the Tim Tebow Super Bowl ad – which tells the story of Tebow’s mom being advised to have an abortion due to illness, rejecting the idea, and then going on to have a healthy son who is a champion college footballer eyeing up the NFL – is such a hot topic right now.

I don’t see there is such a fuss being made. Surely free speech means any group has the right to air their opinion in a commercial. I may not agree with the underlying message that seeks to outlaw abortion but I don’t see why the ad shouldn’t air.

After all, what’s stopping the pro-choice lobby airing a rival ad?

I’m sorry, but the NFL and Prince just don’t mix. Why Prince chose to make a song for the Minnesota Vikings is beyond me- although, I have a uneasy feeling that it has something to do with their team colors.

I’ve never really been a fan of the Vikings or Prince, so my opinion may be a bit one-sided when I say that I think this song is utterly terrible. I admit Prince is a very talented musician, but I doubt even the marching band would like playing this boring tune.

Lord, have mercy. The General Larry Platt Pants On The Ground phenomenon is spreading, with Brett Favre now having sung and performed the song in the dressing room after the Cowboys Vs. Vikings game on Sunday.

When will the madness end?

If you aren’t yet aware of General Larry Platt or the Pants On The Ground song then you need to watch this video or be completely lost for the next two paragraphs.

Then again, the chances are you’ll be seeing a lot of Pants On The Ground copycats over the next few weeks, as the song seems to be spreading like wildfire.

This video shows Brett Favre doing his own version, and getting caught on TV doing so. The original was fun, for all of five minutes, and I’m already sick of the spoofs doing the rounds.

A professional sportsman has to stick to a very specific diet to stay fit and healthy, and to stay in trim enough to be able to perform come game day.

But what if you get hungry during a game and need something to snack on? A health bar would be good, or maybe a drink of some isotonic sports drink. Or how about a hot dog smothered in mustard such as the one Mark Sanchez devoured during a game on Sunday?

The New York Jets were playing the Oakland Raiders when Sanchez decided he hadn’t eaten enough before the game to sustain him during it. So he grabbed a hot dog, covered it in mustard, and ate it on the sidelines. All of which was caught on camera.

Sanchez apologized after the game and explained that he felt queasy and that eating something would ease the pain. But a hot dog? With mustard on? That’s OK for the fans in the stands but for one of the player mid-match?

Being British, I think of American football, or just football depending on your point of view, as a bit of a game for sissys. Why all the padding and helmets? You don’t get any of that in rugby.

However, this video shows why the helmet and padding is necessary, because when you get an elbow in the face from a big guy running at full pelt, it’s the only thing that’ll stop you from being paralyzed.

It shows Carolina Panthers safety Dante Wesley taking out Tampa Bay Buccaneers punt returner Clifton Smith. It was a hell of a hit that left Smith concussed on the pitch for several minutes and ended his game.

As is usually the case, the incident caused a mass ruckus between the two teams before Wesley was ejected from the game. Carolina ended up winning 28-21 against the Buccaneers. Proving life is never fair and that cheats do sometimes prosper.

It’s a well-known fact where I live, Georgia Bulldog fans sound a lot like soldiers in the movie 300. And, as a Georgia resident I’m not really surprised by the insanity that comes out of this young man’s mouth in this pre-game “interview.”

As a college student in the state of Georgia, I’ve quickly come to learn that the University of Georgia is only known for two things: parties and football. So while kids like the one above may seem “crazy” to most people, his kind are actually more common than you think.

Hell, if I had a few beers in me and had the balls to do it I’d probably give a similar interview. As you can tell by his calm ending comments, the only reason this student did it is for the attention- which seems to have worked out pretty well thanks to the internet.

There wasn’t a kid I knew growing up who didn’t try to moonwalk. Michael Jackson had an effect on people that simply can’t be replicated. Such is the case with this classic clip.

During this 1993 Super Bowl Performance of “Heal The World” he has the power to transform the mood of an entire stadium with just a song. It’s too bad the man couldn’t heal himself.

I can’t think of one lip-synced performance that has been this good. It’s almost as if the guy isn’t human. Sure, today’s artists like Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, and Britney Spears can emulate his style, but they don’t have nearly as much stage presence.

Michael may have passed at a young age, but his legacy of jaw-dropping music videos and his crowd-gathering persona will always remain. Rest in peace.
