Supercross is a dangerous sport. In fact, all motor sport is dangerous, regardless of the machine used and the health and safety rules instituted.

A fact that Trey Canard and Ryan Morais could attest to, having been involved in a nasty crash during the 20-lap main event of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series held at Dodger Stadium

Both riders came away badly injured; Morais with three fractured vertebrae in his neck, a broken jaw, and a bad concussion, Canard with two fractured vertebrae in his spine, and a bad concussion.

The thing to remember is crashes are a part of motor sports. Remove the risk of anyone coming a cropper and you take away the thrilling aspect of the sports. Everyone involved knows the risks and takes part regardless.

This is a video showing First Lady Michelle Obama being booed at a NASCAR race in Florida. It’s ignorant behavior, but not necessarily for the reasons many seem to be suggesting.

I think this is being blown out of proportion somewhat. In the U.K. we openly boo our politicians if we don’t like them including the Prime Minister. But in the U.S. there is generally a lot more respect for the President. For some strange reason.

I guess the controversy is over the fact that this was in the south and Michelle Obama is obviosly African American. But I doubt the color of her skin had anything whatsoever to do with it.

Let’s face it, the United States, like every other country in the world (bar Germany and China) is in financial difficulties. And this is a reaction to that. It’s still stupid, however, as most of the problems were sewn before Barack Obama became president.

Warning: This video shows a fatal motorcycle accident from the MotoGP race in Sepang, Malaysia. Viewer discretion is advised. Marco Simoncelli died from injuries sustained in this crash.

At first sight this accident doesn’t look all that bad. I’ve seen riders get flung through the air and tumble head over feet multiple times before getting up and walking away. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case here.

Marco Simoncelli’s bike veers across the track into the path of Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi. Neither rider could avoid hitting Simoncelli, whose helmet was knocked off.

Simoncelli sustained injuries to his head, neck, and chest, and was in cardiac arrest by the time medics arrived on the scene. He died from his injuries despite being treated.

This video shows the 15-car pile-up during the IndyCar Series season finale at Las Vegas Motor Speedway which claimed the life of former champion Dan Wheldon. He was just 33-years-old.

Wheldon was airlifted to hospital after this crash, which saw his car catapulted into the fence where it burst into flames. He had suffered serious injuries and ended up passing away a couple of hours later.

The bad thing is crashes are as much a part of motorsport as overtaking and driver rivalry. They happen often and the fans even enjoy watching huge pile-ups, whether they admit it or not.

But when someone dies in one of the crashes it changes the very nature of it. It’s no longer an awesome sight to behold, it’s just scary, shocking, and absolutely tragic. As is the case with this particular one.

This is Ken Block’s Gymkhana Four video, the latest to show off his incredible driving skills. And I have to say it’s probably the best driving video I have ever seen. In fact, I need to watch it all the way through again, it’s that good.

Ken Block is a professional rally driver who is now as well known for his demonstrations of controlled sliding and donuts as his actual racing career.

I first became aware of Block when he appeared on Top Gear, scaring the life out of James May as he drove him around pulling off spectacular feats of driving. Then again May gets scared quite easily.

Gymkhana Four, subtitled The Hollywood Megamercial, sees Block racing around the back-lot of Universal Studios, with spectacular special effects happening around him as he drives. Truly incredible stuff.

If a cat has nine lives, how many does a squirrel have? I’m not sure, but I’ll bet the lucky squirrel in this video lost one after this great escape.

A race track really is no place for a squirrel, and this video shows us why. Those sports cars have no regard for wandering rodents. They just charge on through, believing that they own the road.

The squirrel was very lucky he wasn’t squished under the tires of this roaring Lamborghini as it made its way through the straight. If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes, I’d never have believed it!

Squirrels are cute little furballs with big bushy tails. Well, until they have a close encounter with a Lamborghini LP670-4 SV and then they’re cute little furballs with small stumpy tails and an irregular heartbeat.

This incident, which can only be described as a close call, happened during The Ultimate Lamborghini Experience 4, with one of the beastly supercars driving over the squirrel at over 100 miles-per-hour.

A close call means the squirrel survived, but not wholly intact. You can actually see the tail get lobbed off and fly towards the camera on track if you look very, very closely. And the creature emerges looking a little different.

Will this little guy do well without a tail? After all, isn’t that the body part they use for balance and support? Still, it’ll teach him not to cross the road when a Lamborghini is approaching.

Have you ever seen two motorbikes dance an erotic dance with their bodies continually touching? I didn’t think so, but now you can. It’s all rather bizarre.

The crash itself, which occurred during a Promosport Championship race at Magny-Cours, isn’t very exciting. One guy falls off and the sliding motorbike takes out another. But what happens next is sublime.

The two motorbikes meet each other just to the side of the track and meld together at the handlebars. There then follows a hilarious attempt to part the two and carry on the race.

In the end the riders, both the calm one and the screamy, shouty one, decide to wait it out, and their patience is rewarded. Still, who’d have thought motorbikes could have sex?!?

Formula One is one of those sports that no matter how many precautions are taken could go horribly wrong at any moment. And it almost did for one unfortunate race marshal at the Canadian Grand Prix at the weekend.

There has been a little crash and some debris is covering the track. It’s at this point the race marshals have to race into action to clear the crap away before it damages any of the trailing cars.

Unfortunately one of the marshals isn’t too graceful on his feet and kind of swan dives onto the track. Which would be funny on any occasion but is more so because there are a line of superfast F1 cars queuing up to run him over.

He just about manages to get back off the track in one piece, but I doubt his pride will have survived quite so intact.

After the Monaco Grand Prix last weekend the BBC interviewed Lewis Hamilton. And he actually used the race card. Not a good move, Lewis, not a good move.

For the “Maybe it’s because I’m black” comment skip to 1:10 in the video. Otherwise you can watch the whole thing and hear all of Hamilton’s complaints over how he feels he’s being unfairly treated.

He is joking, that much is patently obvious. He even references Ali G, one of Sacha Baron Cohen’s (Borat, Bruno) earliest creations. Ali G actually used to say, “Is it cos I is black,” but still.

Anyone who thinks Hamilton was actually accusing the F1 stewards of racism needs their head examining. Maybe Hamilton shouldn’t have used the race card even jokingly, but let’s not blow it out of proportion, eh?

Did we really need another Fast and Furious movie? Seriously? Whether we did or not one has arrived in the form of Fast Five, and it’s more of the same for people who like fast cars, muscly men, and fit women.

To be fair to the Fast and Furious movies they have their place. I’ve seen them all so far, which tells you something, and the only one that disappointed me was Tokyo Drift. The rest were mindless yet entertaining fun.

Fast Five carries on that tradition. Don’t go and see it expecting some classy high drama that will test all of your emotions. This is one to just watch while chomping on popcorn and supping on Pepsi.

And as someone who recently saw Sucker Punch, I can attest to that being fun from time to time.

If you have anything over $1 million in your bank account that you’re not sure what to do with, then give it to me. Please. If that doesn’t appeal then you could instead buy a Bugatti Veyron.

The Bugatti Veyron is a supercar that can claim to be the fastest in the world. It can power up to somewhere in the region of 250Mph, and if it passed you at that speed your eyes would have trouble keeping up with it.

This video shows James May, nicknamed Captain Slow, testing out the Bugatti Veyron on Top Gear and doing a fantastic job of it. He managed to get it to travel at over 400Kmh.

If the current model isn’t quick enough for you then you can wait until 2014, when a new, more-powerful and faster model is due to be launched. Just warn your bank manager first or he may have a heart attack.

Gran Turismo 5 has finally arrived on the Playstation 3 six years after Gran Turismo 4 sent the PS2 off in style. And this is the opening movie to the game in all its glory.

If there is one game very strongly associated with the Playstation brand it’s Gran Turismo. The original game appeared on the original Playstation, and there have been four full games since, the latest being Gran Turismo 5.

Not all the reviews have been kind to GT5. The problem is that it is, in essence, merely more of the same, with little in the way of changes or new features. If you’ve played any of the previous titles then you’ll know what to expect.

For fans of the series such as myself this isn’t a bad thing. But Sony is unlikely to convert any of the people who have tried the previous games and not enjoyed them. Still, it’s guaranteed to sell in huge numbers regardless.

You don’t need to be a car enthusiast to appreciate the freakish driving of Ken Block. In this video the American thrill seeker tears up l’Autodrome de Linas just south of Paris, France.

This oval track, built in 1924, stretches for 1.58 miles. Its daredevil banks are as steep as 51 degrees; that’s more than twice the incline of most NASCAR ovals for those playing at home.

Ken seems to handle these stunts like a pro, leading us to think he knows the circuit like the back of his hand. But no; this film captures the first time Ken drove the track. Knowing that makes this video all the more impressive.

I’ll be honest and admit I don’t understand the appeal of NASCAR. It’s so dull. Why would you want to watch fast cars going round and round in circles and not doing much?

There can only be one reason: you’re waiting for the crashes. If that’s the case, then this video clip will please all NASCAR fans. Especially as the driver, Elliott Sadler, walked away without a scratch on him.

Jimmie Johnson took the blame for the crash, admitting to bumping Sadler and sending him careering off the track and into the barriers.

Elliott Sadler was lucky to have stepped out of the wreckage of his car, as it hit a steel guardrail head-on. Which, even I as a non-fan, realize isn’t the best idea in the world.

NASCAR is dangerous. Obviously. But it could be made safer, surely a priority in a sport with cars traveling this fast.

Motocross rider Paris Rosen had a nasty incident at X Games 16 on Friday night. He tried and failed to pull off a front flip during the best trick competition, and ended up in hospital.

Watching live must have been bad enough, but watching the replay on repeat endlessly really shows the bone-crunching reality of what happened.

Rosen just never seemed to get the flip started, rolling forward far too slowly to complete the maneuver before the ground came up to meet him. He landed on his back, which from that height is bad news.

Let’s hope Paris is OK. Initial news from the hospital suggests he’ll be relatively fine. We all make mistakes in different facets of our lives, but when you’re taking part in an extreme sport the consequences are worse than normal.

Rallying is an exciting sport to watch, especially the top-level World Rally Championship. The speeds reached and the driving skills on display over difficult terrain are a sight to see.

But it isn’t as though the drivers don’t also get to see some interesting stuff. Like a guy mooning from the side of the road.

Driving a rally car at speed must be ultra-difficult, requiring intense concentration at all time to prevent nasty crashes. Unfortunately, someone flashing his arse at you from the bushes has got to be a distraction.

This video shows Mark Tapper crashing out of Rally New Zealand after some Kiwi tosspot decides to air his brown eye. The best bit is Tapper telling his co-driver what happened – he’s not too happy.

It’s that time again: Formula One is back, with the 2010 season kicking off this weekend in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia.

This video offers a down and dirty preview to the coming season, with a selection of crashes from recent years, a look at a couple of the new cars, and an F1 car even driving on ice.

The 2010 F1 season looks like being a fantastic one. Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton are set to go head to head (which as a Brit is very appealing), and Michael Schumacher is even back to lay the smack down on these young upstarts.

There are also three new teams joining the ranks this season – Lotus Racing, Virgin Racing, and Hispania F1 Racing. Can any of these newcomers challenge the likes of Ferrari and Renault for the top spots?

Top Gear is a fantastic show, probably my favorite on TV at the moment. It features very fast cars and very funny men in Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May. The latter of which is known as Captain Slow for his conservative driving style.

So, what could make for a better segment of the show than to pair May with Ken Block, a rally driver with a penchant for driving fast and drifting his Suburu Impreza in spectacular style. Let the games begin.

With Block in the driving seat and May riding shotgun, the Suburu rockets around an airfield. the drifts are amazing, the cinematography stunning. And it gets even better when Ricky Carmichael gets involved on his motorbike.

I’m pretty sure James May must have either peed his pants or crapped himself somewhere along the line, probably near the end when Block chooses to jump his car over a huge gap. I could watch this time and time again.

We all know how dangerous a sport motor racing is, with Formula One right up there due to the speeds the drivers travel at. Although the sport has endeavored to introduce many new safety features over the past few years, danger still exists round every corner.

As has been the case today in Budapest during the qualifying session for the Grand Prix of Hungary. On first viewing the crash looks mild and nothing to write home about, but watch again more carefully and the problem becomes clear.

Felipe Massa, the Brazilian driver for Ferrari, was hit on the head by a piece of flying debris from Rubens Barrichello’s Brawn GP car. In the video, you can see a spring hit Massa in the chin, which affects him enough to take him off the track and into a tire wall.

Luckily, Massa is thought to be doing fine in hospital, talking and having sustained no serious injury. But it could have been a lot worse for him. Henry Surtees died after being hit on the head by a wheel last week during a Formula Two race at Brands Hatch. And he was just 18-years-old.
