More than 50 daredevil dogs came together to hang ten at Imperial Beach, California, last weekend. This video shows just how adorable they looked, and how impressively they performed.

There’s one part of me that kind of hates seeing animals do what I can’t manage with my opposable thumbs and larger brain. But I can’t resent this event for too long. Those water-loving wax head pups are just too cute!

And besides, money raised from the competition benefited local school programs. No matter which way you look at it, getting a pack of pooches together for fun on the high seas can’t be anything but awesome.

Andy Irons, 3-times world champion surfer, has been found dead in his Dallas hotel room. The cause of death is as yet unknown.

I know nothing about surfing, but after watching just a couple of videos of Andy Irons in action I can tell he was one of the best to ever take part in the sport. Which is why he won the world championship consecutively from 2002-2004.

Unfortunately, Irons has died at the tender age of just 32. He’d been suffering from dengue fever and is thought to have been taking methadone to relieve the pain. It’s possible, though not confirmed, that an overdose was the cause of death.

Whatever the cause of death, Irons will be remembered instead for his creative and inventive style of surfing which thrilled all who saw him in action.

There are certain animals none of us ever really wants to come face-to-face with. Lions and tigers scare the crap out of me, as do sharks and killer whales.

Which means this video has put me off ever going surfing.

I’m not great with water at the best of times. It’s the dark, the depths, the unknown quantity that freaks me out. Which means I don’t venture far from the beach on holiday and try to avoid taking to the water whenever possible.

And after seeing this video nothing has changed. In fact, it’s made me resolve to never enter the water of any stretch of coastline where there is a serious threat of being attacked by a killing machine such as a great white shark.

This guy doesn’t seem that bothered, however, and carries on filming despite being a long way from safety. Bravery or stupidity?

Who needs the ten-foot waves of Hawaii when you’ve got a parking lot and a tarp? In this clever video we see the world’s greatest tarp surfing champs doing their thing.

This parody video mimicking the surf rider films of old may be a bit of a one-joke wonder, but its stunning visuals make it worth a look.

Who would have imagined that a large blue tarpaulin, a parking lot, and a few skateboarders could create something that so convincingly mimicked big surf action?

Maybe those of us living in the urban jungle could learn a thing or two from this video. It looks like mad fun!

Bringing the ‘cool’ back to surfing. Or hurricanes. Or idiocy.

This video shows three windsurfers living it up and taking advantage of the wind gusts from the approaching hurricane Gustav.

And why shouldn’t they? When millions have fled and the police and national guard are urging the people who stayed to stay inside, why not go out for a day of sand and surf? Fun stuff.

Maybe I’m being a bit harsh, but having been through twin tornadoes, strong storms tend to make me a teensy bit nervous.

Thank goodness I moved to Australia. I only have to deal with the killer snakes and spiders.

These guys are insane. I would be scared to death if I were caught in a wave this big, and wouldn’t have a clue what to do! I went to the big beach in Maui once and had a hard time getting into the water, and the waves were a tenth the size of these.

These are the Billabong Ride of the Year nominees, and the top five under consideration were Manoa Drollet, Ian Walsh, Shane Dorian, Carlos Burle, Michael Brennan. Each wave was equally gnarly, but who would you guess took the winnings?

I have heard of and seen regular surfing. It’s an amazing sport that takes more bravery and skill than I could muster.

But I think even some of the best surfers might shy away from this extreme form of their sport:

Glacier surfing.

I couldn’t quite believe it until I saw it, but these guys use the waves caused by ice chunks – ice chunks big enough to kill them – falling off glaciers to surf in freezing waters.

I can’t decide if they have too much time (and money, for that matter) on their hands or if they are the new thrill seekers. Either way, this video is awesome.

BoardRideTV was founded in July 2007 and is an action sports video website for web users worldwide to watch and share original content – gnarly, dude!

Think of it as a YouTube for board-based sports and you’re there. BoardRideTV features home made videos of crazy skateboarding stunts, giant wave riding and a myriad of other white-knuckle activities including wakeboarding, snowboarding and kite surfing.

The site’s layout is simple and clean, and all videos are categorized making for easy navigation and quick viewing.

Online communities such as BoardRideTV have the potential to become the Internet version of niche television channels, but it is clear by the site’s lack of registered contributors that the word hasn’t spread just yet.

Watch as this surfer is brutally attacked by a Great White Shark. This is “Jaws” come to life!

This video includes an interview with the surfer, who explains his terrifying point of view during the attack. Then, we get to watch the video again in slow motion, where we see that the surfer was actually attacked by two sharks!

Thankfully, the surfer walked away with minor injuries to his right arm. He was extremely lucky! As he says, he was staring at the shark; they were “face to face”!

I’m going to think twice before getting into the ocean again. There’s no shame in swimming in a pool, right?

The music is reason enough to watch this video. I got up and started jamming, dancing around my bedroom! This song rocks.

However, if you do happen to be a surfing fan, then you’ll find things other than the music to enjoy while watching. This video showcases a montage of Laird Hamilton, world class surfer and hardcore tow-in surfer.

Watch him conquer some huge waves without even breaking a sweat. It makes you wonder if Laird is human, or if he has some sort of deal with Satan. Either way, he is an incredible and innovative surfer. This is definitely worth a watch!

Even surfing legends have bad days. Tahitian surfer Raimana Van Bastolaer proves that with this video of him surfing in Teahupoo, Tahiti.

At first, Raimana seems to have this huge wave under control. It’s humongous, and he goes at it like a champ. He’s killing it when, suddenly, the wave decides to wipe him out. He suffers one of the worst falls in history!

The videographer of this painful video gives us slow-motion action… and there’s a replay! So if you missed the gruesome wipeout the first time, you’ll see it again and again…

Get ready to be shocked . . . because these mice are absolutely crazy. You won’t believe that they can actually surf on tiny mice-sized surfboards! They surf better than surfers I’ve seen on the beach. I could watch these mice hang loose all day!

These surfing mice have a name: the Radical Rodents. They primarily surf in rivers, but the waves are definitely big enough for them! They have been surfing for three years, and they’re still going strong.

This video has made me re-think my take on rodents. If I could be assured that the mice in my home surfed, I would stop setting out the mousetraps!

Jack Johnson loves surfing, and he decided to take one of his songs and create a surfing montage to prove it. Listen as Jack sings “Waiting, Wishing” and watch the amazing surfing clips that accompany the song!

The legendary Kelly Slater has won something like eight world titles, and he’s still super popular today. Very few people will have the opportunity to see him surf in person; this video serves as a consolation prize. This video montage shows clips from Kelly’s greatest surfs.

This surfer has more guts than I could ever imagine having!

Watch as he takes on and masters an extremely huge wave swell. First it looks as though the wave is going to be a typical one, and then the picture widens and you can see that this wave is monstrous!

The surfer isn’t intimidated by this wave swell (which is so huge, it’s known as Jaws!). He looks the fifty to sixty foot wave in the eye and takes it on! The best part is when it looks like he’s eaten it . . . and then he comes back into view, ready to keep surfing the swell!

Pepsi has the right idea. Take some awesome athletes, put them on a beach playing soccer, and then integrate soccer and surfing!

This video is ridiculously entertaining and has some big names attached to it! David Beckham, Roberto Carlos, Fernando Torres and Raul Gonzales are just a few of the famous athletes who make an appearance in the commercial.

Watch these Germans surf a river in the Munich English Garden. It’s incredible—I had no idea that you could actually surf off of the white water action in a river! This video proves that yes, you can surf a river—and you can do it well!

These surfers are obviously seasoned pros. No amateurs should take on this river. These guys seem to be very comfortable while surfing, and when they wipe out, they do it gracefully!

This kind of surfing looks like too much fun. If I had any swimming talents whatsoever, I’d pick up a surfboard and head over to Germany!

These guys either have a screw loose or don’t understand the concept of death! Just thinking about participating in this stunt makes my skin crawl.

This group of guys in Copenhagen creates waves by throwing a huge stick of dynamite into a lake . . . but that’s not all! After creating these awesome waves, one of the guys surfs on it!

The surprise in it all is that the surfer actually catches a pretty amazing wave. Who knew that you could make your own waves with just a stick of dynamite? I wouldn’t recommend it, though . . .
