This is a small clip from BBC taking a look at what makes an internet troll and trying to gain some insight as to why they do it.

I hardly know where to start with this one.

Some people may say that this video is pointless and why are they tracking down these people when there are murderers and rapists running around.

But I think it’s a valuable thing because there is a lot of internet trolling and bullying.

Not only has this caused/contributed to suicides, but it really shines a light on needing to examine what is wrong with society that people feel unfulfilled unless they try damaging other people.

He’s a sad man, to be sure.

President Obama recently gave the first virtual interview from the White House, which was broadcast on YouTube and took the form of a Google+ hangout. If you have any interest in politics then it’s definitely worth watching.

Obama is the first U.S. president to truly embrace technology. He did so when he was campaigning to be elected, and has continued to do so throughout his first term in office.

As well as being on Twitter, Facebook, and all the other various social networks out there, Obama has also taken to YouTube to reach out to voters directly.

This video is the full, 50-minute Google+ hangout which sees President Obama answering questions from members of the public. You might not like all his responses, but the mere fact he’s taking part should count for something.

As adults we’re all used to seeing company logos and instantly attaching them to the brand we probably know and possibly love. But what goes through the mind of a 5-year-old child when it sees the same logos?

It’s interesting how the kid recognizes some but not others. His parents clearly frequent coffee shops as he recognizes those and connects them to coffee. And Disney, of course. Oh, and Apple!

This actually made me examine these logos in a way I hadn’t previously. I now realize what the likes of Pepsi, CBS, and Boeing were going for, whereas before I just took them for what they were.

I can’t help thinking there is something in this. If I were a new company I’d commission several different logos and then include children in the focus group helping to decide which to go for. Or is that too simplistic?

Although I don’t play it as much as I used to (does anyone?) I’m still a big fan of the Guitar Hero/Rock Band games. But there is a better alternative…

… a real guitar, obviously. But not everyone agrees with that sentiment. The characters from South Park, for one.

This is probably a really old clip but I don’t care, because it’s awesome. It’s also quite timely with Rocksmith, a new game which combines the gameplay from these games with a real guitar, now available to buy.

But enough of all that. I’m off now to play with my plastic guitar. Yes, I’m too old and I should know better. But it’s just too much damn fun!

Late last year, PostSecret launched it’s iPhone App and over the past 4 months it quickly became the number #1 due to over 30,000 secrets being submitted daily.

However, due to an overwhelming number of death threats and objectionable content, the company has decided to pull the app for now. Here’s the trailer for the now-defunct iPhone app.

I personally never used PostSecret when it started because I was too damn lazy to mail anything out, but I’m a huge fan of the blog and the concept. When the creators came to lecture at my university a few years ago, I was amazed by the brutally honest submissions.

It turns out that the Staff was getting only about 1% objectionable content (pornography, pranks, cyber-bullying) but that number was about 300 a day. After some content was reported to the FBI, the creators had no choice but to shut it down.

Personally I don’t even find real babies all that cute. So the chances of me finding an animatronic one cute were remote. Not only do I not find it cute, I find it goddamn creepy. I mean, will you just look at that thing!

This animatronic attempt at mimicking a baby’s movements is the work of Chris Clarke. And I hate him for bringing this scary vision into my eye-line, even though he is quite clearly a genius.

Whenever I see a robot exhibiting human traits I always think back to The Matrix. That’s my go-to source of all things about androids and artificial intelligence succeeding our pitiful human intelligence.

It’s bad enough seeing adult robots taking over the world, let alone little baby ones. And it all ends with each of us becoming nothing more than a battery powering them. Be on your guard!

Lego is incredible stuff. It’s a toy, it’s plastic, it’s a bit naff. But it’s also amazingly versatile and pleases both adults and children. I just wish there were some some way to automatically sort it…

Believe it or not there is. And it’s this machine, which is a giant Lego sorting plant. It was built by a team of engineers at BrickIt, who were commissioned to do so by a company named Dynaway.

It’s made out of Lego itself, and from the look of this video it works amazingly well.The machine sorts Lego bricks based on size and color.

The BrickIt lego sorting plant took 37,500 Lego bricks, 28 motors, and a load of other stuff normal folk like you and I won’t understand. Was it worth it? Probably not, but it makes for an awesome demonstration of what can be achieved with Lego.

Another day, another Hitler in his bunker being informed of the latest news video spoof. This one is about SOPA, PIPA, and MegaUpload.

Thanks to this meme I’ve seen this segment of Downfall (the movie it’s taken from) more times than I care to mention. Thankfully most of the spoofs which use it are worth watching. And this one is no exception.

It deals with the fallout of SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act), and the taking down of MegaUpload the day after half the Web blacked out content to protest the bills.

This is surely what YouTube was made for: it’s an entertaining video which also seeks to make a serious point. And it does so by using copyrighted content. How ironic.

There is a myth bandied around by all the media companies as to how much damage piracy or file-sharing causes. And they’re using this to promote SOPA and PIPA.

I’m not advocating piracy here. As a writer who has had his content copied and pasted elsewhere without attribution, I can see how the Internet has created a big problem.

However, not only is there an argument as to whether file-sharing is theft or not, there is also the underhanded way the media companies are overstating the issues involved. They claim jobs and revenue are lost each and every time a file is shared. Which is nonsense.

As for SOPA and PIPA, these two bills have been badly written and use language so vague that they will affect more than just those sites originally targeted. Believe the hype and help fight SOPA and PIPA.

SOPA and PIPA are two pieces of legislation threatening to kill the internet as we know it. And you know what that means people: no more LOLcats.

This protest song, a parody of Don McLean’s “American Pie” imagines a world without those lovable kitties, and indeed many of the websites we take for granted. If you thought doing without Wikipedia today has been tough, consider the long term ramifications of the laws.

Indeed, we wouldn’t have awesome song parodies like this. Perhaps it’s time we all stopped changing our Facebook user pictures and Tweeting about it and took real action!

SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act) are still working their way through Congress and the Internet needs to pull together to let politicians know they back these flawed bills without the support of the general public.

SOPA and PIPA are important bills that need fighting against. I’d love for everyone to educate themselves about SOPA and PIPA, but I know most won’t.

All you really need to know is: 1. These initiatives are using a sledgehammer to crack a nut. 2. They simply won’t work. 3. Most of what the entertainment industry spouts about piracy/file-sharing is pure conjecture.

This video seeks to point out some of the flaws in this one-sided explanation video of SOPA and PIPA from Viacom. And it does so exceptionally well.

Tomorrow (January 18th) will be a pretty big day for SOPA protestors due to the support from sites like Wikipedia, Reddit, Mozilla, & others.

To spread awareness and to urge people to take action, Wikipedia will be putting up a couple “blackout” pages for anyone attempting to use the site. Check them out below…

This video shows Will.i.am, lead singer/rapper of the Black Eyed Peas, presenting the Ultrabook Project for Intel at CES 2012. Watch it if you like seeing celebrities floundering around and proving they’re only human.

Will.i.am is a terrible public speaker and he doesn’t seem to have a clue what he’s talking about. In essence, he’s clearly out of his depth and has only bee hired because of who he is.

I personally blame Dr. Dre, who forged this new link between celebrities and technology with his Beats headphones. But at least he knew what he was talking about and the partnership made sense.

Seriously, can we stop this now? Hiring a famous person, usually a musician, to be your spokesman only makes sense in a few cases. And if anything this teaming up of Will.i.am and Intel shows how and why not to do it.

Livia Scott speaks to a generation of tech-savvy singles with her instant comedy classic, “I Like You Better on Facebook.”

The song’s title says it all really. It’s an ode of sorts to those Facebook users you fall hard for, only to discover they’re tools in real life. And the problem is, once you cross that line you can never go back. Even if you never bump into them again their status updates and shared links will never seem as clever or charming.

As well as being especially poignant in the digital age, this song is also ridiculously catchy. It’s become my new soundtrack for online clean-ups!

You can now buy a Steve Jobs action figure. Although why you’d want to do such a thing I have no idea. I bet there will be people who do so though.

Steve Jobs was the founder and CEO of Apple who died last year. He was an icon to many, one of the handful of people who brought personal computing into the world.

However, despite the obvious love some people had for him, I doubt many will purchase the lifelike action figure going on sale. Especially as it costs $99.

This Steve Jobs doll looks far too lifelike to me. It would freak me out to have this sitting on my desk. Especially now that he has passed away. I’ll pass, thank you.

If you want to win at Ant Crusher there is one very simple yet elegant strategy: get an African bullfrog and sit him in front of your phone with the game running.

This frog owns at this game, but only because it thinks the ants crawling down the screen are real and it’s about to get a mouthful of tasty bug.

I do think the ending was set up. The guy holding the phone purposely moves his thumb round to the front, offering it up to the frog as food. The frog reacts right on cue, giving the video the perfect finish.

Some people are complaining this is cruelty to animals. To these people I say, “Get a life.” You’re pranking a frog, that’s all. It’s not like it’s being hurt, physically or emotionally.

If you ever needed proof that video games still have some way to go in order to be realistic, just watch this video. It shows someone taking an enemy aircraft down in an unusual manner.

Battlefield 3 is the latest in the Battlefield series of video games. It was released around the same time as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 but is actually a different style of game.

As well as the FPS elements, you can drive tanks around and fly jet aircraft above the battlefield. Which has led to some unusual ways of taking people down.

This guy ejects from his jet plane, pulls a rocket launcher out of somewhere, shoots an enemy aircraft down, and then climbs back into his seat. Chuck Norris would be proud.

This is the motorcycle safety sphere, a new invention being sold as “a solution to reduce the gravity of wounds caused by motorcycle accidents.” If it works then this could be a life saver. Literally.

This is a great product in theory, but in practice I’m not so sure. I’m guessing it will take a long time to come to market (if it ever does) purely because of the number of safety checks it will be subjected to.

Rejean Neron is the inventor now looking for funding to bring the motorcycle safety sphere to market. I wish him luck, but some rather obvious question remain over this system. Let’s hope they’re answered quickly.

Oh, and let’s start with, Why does it have to be orange?

You’ve got to love Google. OK, so maybe not the corporate side of the company, the sometimes-intrusive advertising, or the fact it shutters products quickly. But its easter eggs are cool.

The latest Google search easter egg is very topical for Christmas. And here is how to turn it on…

Go to Google.com and type ‘Let It Snow’ into the text box. The normal search results will appear, but then it will begin to snow. Eventually snow will fill up the screen, enabling you to draw in the snow using your mouse.

This is awesome, but I’d make the most of it while you can. I’d guess the Let It Snow Google easter egg will only work for a small amount of time. Until the new year, possibly.

This little bearded dragon proves you don’t need opposable thumbs to become a smart phone game wiz. In fact, all you need is an accurate tongue and a healthy appetite.

This cute lizard sizes up his ant opponents on the Ant Crusher game and lashes out with this quick tongue. He’s so much better than I could hope to be; he never seems to miss!

I can only imagine how frustrating this app much be for the lizard though. We know it’s just a game, but all he knows is that he’s hitting the ant targets and never getting full!
