Red Tails is a new movie from George Lucas telling the story of the Tuskegee Airmen. You can watch the trailer for it here. Or you can watch the film HBO made of the same story in 1995.

It was simply named The Tuskegee Airmen, and this is the trailer for that version of history.

I’m not saying don’t go out to the movie theater and watch Red Tails. I’d like to see the film do well at the box office. However, there is another option as the George Lucas effort isn’t the first telling of the tale.

There are some differences between the two. Lucas has used special effects aplenty (as he always does) while HBO used archive footage of the planes and airmen fighting the war. I’d also say the acting is better in The Tuskegee Airmen, but that’s just me.

This video shows four Marines urinating on the dead bodies of Taliban soldiers. Suffice to say it isn’t for those who are easily offended.

The only question I have is why? What would make anyone think it’s a good idea to urinate on a dead body? Sure, I know these are soldiers fighting in a war, and that those they’re peeing on were their enemy. But have some respect.

Anyone defending this behavior, and there are some inconceivably doing just that, should imagine how they would feel if the roles were reversed.

If an American soldier had been filmed lying dead in the street getting urinated on by a member of the Taliban then there would be outrage and condemnation from all sides. As there should in this case.

The Doomsday Clock is now set at 11.55pm. Don’t worry, this doesn’t mean the world is going to end in literally five minutes time, although maybe it will in 11 months time if the Mayan prophecy comes true.

The Doomsday Clock has been with us since 1947 and the start of the Cold War. At that time it was set to seven minutes to midnight before leaping forward to two minutes to midnight in 1952. It’s moved back and forth ever since.

The idea is to track how close the world is to ending. The Doomsday Clock is nothing more than a metaphor, but the fact it’s always just a few minutes away from midnight suggests humanity is living on the precipice.

This report states it’s now set at four minutes to midnight, but everything else I have read states it’s actually at five minutes to midnight after having been brought forward one minute. Thankfully it’s meaningless, so it doesn’t actually matter a jot.

A great battle is approaching. On one side we have Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and on the other we have Battlefield 3. But which will take the ‘Best Shooter of 2011′ crown?

This video shows Battlefield 3 running on a high-end PC, and it’s far to say it looks great. If all gamers had plenty of money then we’d all play using these settings. Unfortunately we don’t.

Battlefield 3 is also being released on the PS3 and Xbox 360, but the visuals won’t be quite as impressive. The big question is how the game will rank alongside the latest Call of Duty game?

Modern Warfare has taken the top spot on previous occasions, but while Modern Warfare 3 is more of the same, Battlefield 3 has ratcheted things up a few notches. This is going to be one bloody battle.

Summer may be drawing to a close, which sucks, but it does mean we’re about to enter into the golden time of the year for gamers. The next few months are going to see the best games of the year released in the run up to Christmas.

Starting with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, for which this is the multiplayer trailer.

This is one of the best trailers for a video game I have ever seen. It shows off the visuals and the different styles of gameplay superbly. Sure, there is very little actual in-game footage, but that doesn’t matter too much.

Modern Warfare faces stiff competition for the hearts and minds of gamers from Battlefield 3, which brings vehicles and aircraft into the equation. It’s going to be a tough fight between the two, but Call of Duty has certainly come out fighting.

There are also reports that Muammar al-Qaddafi’s sons has been captured by rebel fighters.

NATO said in a statement that “the sooner Qaddafi realizes that he cannot win the battle against his own people, the better — so that the Libyan people can be spared further bloodshed and suffering.”

War is a very human trait. You don’t find most other species having full-on conflicts over territory. Well, except for cats in the neighborhood who all want to be king. Which makes me wonder how cats would fare with guns…

We now know, thanks to a new video which sees Mr. Meowmers saving his human counterparts from enemy gunfire by bravely manning (or perhaps catting) a machine gun until they escape to safety.

Sadly, tragically, Mr. Meowmers doesn’t survive the ordeal, getting a bullet in the head for his troubles. Still, it could be worse, I suppose.

As someone pointed out in the YouTube comments, Mr. Meowmers will be fine as he still has 8 lives left. Unless, of course, he’d already used them all up before he was sniped out of existence. Ah.

This is the first official gameplay trailer for Modern Warfare 3. Having previously teased us with a strange teaser, Activision has now revealed all.

I have to say I’m not impressed. Oh, there’s nothing wrong with the game, by the looks of it. It’s what we’ve come to expect thanks to the annual updates of this bestselling franchise.

There’s some shooting, some guns, some explosions, some slow motion bullet action, people dying, people blowing up, cities demolished, blah, blah, blah.

In a nutshell it looks good but it’s really just more of the same. If you’ve played one Call of Duty game you’ve played them all. Hell, if you’ve played one shooter this generation you played them all. Or is that a little harsh?

Back when LSD-25 (commonly known as “Acid”) was legal in the 50’s and part of the 60’s there were many studies that took place by various well-respected institutions.

This particular one done by the British military is pretty damn funny- these soldiers don’t seem like they wanna fight.

The guy laughing at the 1:09 mark must be having the time of his life! I would hate to have been there if “the enemy” was approaching with live ammo or it could have been a bad trip for everyone.

Luckily, this footage is available to see by the public in the UK. Here in America, there isn’t much archival footage of the US clinical trials that took place during WWII. After all, when you don’t have soldiers that want to fight, you don’t have a business of war.

Alex Jones doesn’t believe what the U.S. Government is telling us about the death of Osama Bin Laden. Which honestly isn’t all that surprising, really.

The problem with Alex Jones, as with so many of the high-profile conspiracy theorists, is that he takes it to the nth degree. In other words, just that little bit too far to retain any sense of credibility.

I certainly believe we, the people, are only told half the story and what the governments deem we need and will want to hear. But some of the claims Jones and his cohorts have made over the years are too outlandish.

On the death of Osama Bin Laden specifically: something does feel slightly off; the burial at sea, the lack of photo and video evidence, the exact timing. But that doesn’t mean I believe Bin Laden was killed 8 years ago.

Osama Bin Laden is dead, having been killed by U.S. forces and the C.I.A. Well, at least according to President Obama. Cue footage of celebrations at Ground Zero in New York.

I can understand the U.S. seeing this as a victory for the country and for justice. But some of the celebrations have a distinct nationalist and jingoistic feel to them, which surely isn’t appropriate.

Is recounting the pledge of allegiance really necessary? Or the celebratory flag waving? Or the constant chants of “U.S.A.”? It’s all a little over the top, isn’t it?

After all, Bin Laden was just one man. He’ll have already been replaced at the top of al-Qaeda by someone else who hates America and is willing to launch horrific terrorist attacks on them and other democracies around the world.

This video shows a war plane being shot down in Libya. But this is just one of the many horrors we’re likely to witness in the country before the conflict reaches a conclusion.

Am I the only person who thinks we should have stayed out of Libya and not got involved? It is, in effect, a civil war happening in the country, and civil wars are really no concern of foreign powers.

Worse than that the U.S., the U.K., France, and others are taking sides in the conflict rather than acting purely a peacekeeping force trying to get everyone round the table and forge a peaceful solution. How can that possibly be right?

Maybe I’m naive in my way of looking at the world. Or maybe I’ve just been stung by Afghanistan and especially Iraq, two wars that were completely unjustified and have only made more people turn to extremism.

Either way I don’t support us bombing the shit out of Libya.

When I talked to my husband about this documentary after we had watched it, I told him that I knew when my brain had ’shut off and stopped connecting with the images’.

Watching the bodies of dead children being pulled away… My brain refused to accept anything other than they were sleeping.

And yet, that is the kind of thing that is really happening but doesn’t get reported because ‘the people’ don’t need to know the ‘dirty’ side of war.

Well, war is dirty and horrible and the Iraqi people don’t get to just turn off the television, now do they?

The F-22 stealth fighter was once called “the most outstanding fighter plane ever built” and now one of them has mysteriously crashed in Alaska.

Authorities have located the $150 million plane, but the pilot is still missing.

Around 7:40 PM yesterday the F-22 lost contact with radar and around 10:15 the plane was found by helicopter. Air Force Sergeant Daniel Delgado believes that the pilot ejected from the plane and Alaska Air National Guard is currently on the lookout for them.

As for the actual F-22, I am glad that Obama cut off funding for the $65 billion program. That money could be spent on other more useful things than national defense. Last year the Air Force reported that a single hour of operating the craft costs $44,000 an hour.

George W. Bush revealed in the memoirs of his time as President of the U.S.A. that he authorized the use of waterboarding on three suspected terrorists. And he sticks by his decision to do so, insisting that the practice is not torture.

This video makes me think differently. After hearing descriptions of waterboarding and how cruel and unusual an activity it is I suspected it was torture. And now I know it is.

The man being waterboarded here is Christopher Hitchens, a British journalist and writer with Vanity Fair. A man who can be trusted to give an honest appraisal of the practice after being subjected to it.

There is no doubt in my mind that waterboarding constitutes torture. While no physical harm is done, the mental anguish of believing you are drowning must be intense. If that’s not torture then I defy anyone to explain why it isn’t.

This commercial for a van with x-ray technology is causing quite an uproar online. While the company that manufactures the van suggests that it’s only intention is to promote safety, many people are questioning if such technology is unconstitutional.

Is it just me or does this seem like a violation of the 4th amendment?

The last thing I need is to be fearing that some x-ray van is scanning my body/car and emitting harmful radioactive rays whenever I’m out of the house. The last time I checked, you still needed to have protection for x-ray scans, so I’m wondering if this technology is cancer-causing.

I could see how something like this could be useful for airports, but honestly, I’m not that paranoid about people trying to blow me up everywhere I go with hidden explosives. War toys need to stay where wars are.

Most of us were are too young to remember the devastation of World War II, but this man does. Happily though, he also remembers a moment where he connected with a man who was meant to be his enemy.

The soldier tells of a night during wartime when he played his trumpet. He plays the same tune again, and you’d swear he was transported back to the time.

While his comrades probably appreciated the music, it was a German man that reached out to him the next day and said how much the song reminded him of his loved ones back home.

War forces us to choose sides and tells us who our enemies are. But this video reminds us that no matter what we’re told, we really are all the same.

We’ve heard it all before from Bush, but this time Obama is the one saying that the US occupation in Iraq will be ending soon. How soon? By the end of this month to be exact.

So far, Obama states, 90,000 troops have returned home from Iraq.

As optimistic as I want to be with news like this, It’s still hard to believe that this could happen by the end of August. Sure, we may be pulling out of Iraq, but there is still an operation in Afghanistan that is getting bigger every day still.

A complete withdrawl from the middle east probably won’t happen for decades, but I’m glad for this step in the right direction. Hopefully the Obama administration will lead to spending less on war and more on healthcare by the time they leave office.

Hats off to Rep. Alan Grayson for supporting such a simple act that needs to be passed. Even the name “The War Is Making You Poor Act” is clear cut!

As this C-SPAN clip proves, we’ve already been spending too much money on the military- why would we need $159 billion more?

I voted for Obama for a number of reasons, one of them being that he claimed to be able to “bring the troops home.” Of course, this has yet to happen and he even recently granted $159 billion more for the war.

This presentation is so easy to understand, I’ll be damned if the act doesn’t get passed. I’m one of the 33% of Americans that make under $35,000 a year, and I could really use that tax break.

You always hear about military soldiers using excessive force, but actually seeing with your eyes is pretty shocking. Not to mention when the “crime” the Iraqis in this video committed was stealing wood.

That’s right, as in fire wood.

The last time I checked, there wasn’t a law you could break in America that would get your car shot up and smashed by a tank, but that’s exactly what happens in this video from Iraq. The saddest part has to be when we find out that the car actually belonged to a Taxi driver.

The phrase “that’s what you get!” has never been portrayed so ignorantly. I hope these soldiers have gotten reported and suspended since this incident.
