No doubt, Obama is starting to make headlines as he transitions from President-elect to the 44th leader of the United States. Following in the footsteps of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s ‘fireside chats,’ he has started a weekly broadcast to maintain connected with the American public.

Technically, this broadcast isn’t new to Obama’s campaign (the address has always been broadcasted on the radio), but now it’s in video form on YouTube and is gaining views by the thousands.

Since Roosevelt’s fireside chats were made during the Great Depression, it’s only natural to compare the two Presidents since we too are in troubling economic times. Even after Obama is in office, he will continue to do these updates in the same manner. It’s looks like all the online buzz the man has isn’t going anywhere any time soon.

But perhaps the most important reason for why he is choosing to do this is to avoid reporters and commentators. Sure, news stations like Fox, CNN, and MSNBC will most likely air cuts from each address, but the choice to see the video in it’s entirety won’t be in the hands of major companies.

November 14th Address

This is the first ‘fireside chat’ that addresses mainly economic issues. It was uploaded just a day ago and already the video has been viewed over 500,000 times. As for the YouTube ChangeDotGov channel itself, it is already the most subscribed video channel of this month.

But there is help out there, and one of the best resources is the four-times weekly Web television show called DadLabs.

Rather than have parenting tips spelt out in a condescending manner by someone who thinks they know it all, and you know nothing, DadLabs keeps it fun.

Four Episodes A Week

There are four different shows a week, all focussing on a different element of parenting. My personal favourite is titled The Lounge, and sees the presenters discussing a parenting topic of the day down the pub.

This is the type of Web TV show that should be successful, as it offers something different than the mainstream, and something which is only possible on the Internet.

Miles Beckett and Greg Goodfried, two of the brains behind lonelygirl15, have started a new web drama titled “KateModern”. The show focuses on Kate: a 20-year-old art student with a dramatic life.

In addition to their daily blogs, PopCrunch.com has started its own YouTube channel dedicated to their PopCrunch show. The show follows a similar style to other celebrity gossip shows, but does it better. Think of it as E! without rules.

Each episode focuses on the latest celebrity gossip and puts the usual PopCrunch spin on it: no holding back. So don’t be surprised to find out that the Latin Grammy winners were “Shakira’s ass and Enrique Iglesias’s mole”.

In 1998’s The Truman Show starring Jim Carrey, viewers followed every detail of the scripted existence of one Truman Burbank. The real life Big Brother had never-ending twists and turns, but are all real lives just as interesting? YourTrumanShow thinks so.

The site provides a platform for anyone around the world to share the drama of their lives through the medium of video, with users are encouraged to create a whole TV series based solely around themselves.

Featured examples include Keaton creating his first music album, John on his skateboarding hobby and Brian the chef inviting us into his hotheaded world – utterly mundane on the whole, but strangely compelling. There’s even a chance, YourTrumanShow claims, that using its free service could gain you instant celebrity status.

YouTube is still the home of the Internet video celebrity (including ’smosh,’ ‘lonelygirl15′ and the ‘Angry Video Game Nerd’), but with a neat little site dedicated to it, YouTrumanShow could grow into a central hub for the 21st century phenomenon.

Facebook and Ziddio have just launched their joint venture in the form of Facebook Diaries, a project that was first announced in February this year.

The series features video diary entries from Facebook users’, each sharing a common theme. The delicate documents are stitched together in a way that conveys an intimate insight into the lives of the social networking site’s members.

The first episode entitled ‘Who Am I?’ presents young people questioning their place in the world and their own wildly varying personal situations. The stream also features other user-created videos and performances from upcoming singers and bands.

‘Who Am I?’ is the first of 8 twenty-minute episodes that will be broadcasted every Thursday for the next two months – and should you wish to, it isn’t too late to submit a video of your own for consideration.

From what we’ve seen so far, R.J. Cutler of Actual Reality Pictures demonstrates a well-considered skill for piecing the numerous individuals’ video blogs together in what turns out to be a moving and thoughtful 20-minute watch.

Morgan Webb, the co-host of X-Play on G4 has launched a frequently updated video blog called WebbAlert. The site will be updated with a show, covering the latest in technology news, from Monday to Thursday each week.

WebbAlert offers a wide range of stories delivered in an enthusiastic, humorous and entertaining way. It’s clear to see the gusto that Webb puts into the broadcast and it works wonders, really helping to engage the viewer.

Webb mostly creates the show at her home. She writes, develops, produces the content and even does her own camera work – and very professional it looks too. The business side of things is taken care of by her partner.

This is a great site for a one-stop, quick fix of tech news, although a comment function would help to improve it.

Lonelygirl15 has officially met her end. For those of you who have no idea who Lonelygirl15 is, here’s a brief description.

Lonelygirl15 is Bree, a teenager who kept an online video diary telling the world of her life, friends, and family in a blog style. Her videos could be found on YouTube, MySpace, and more.

Throughout the first year of Bree’s blogs, the world questioned whether or not she was a real person, telling everyone about her real problems. To set the record straight: Bree is a fictional character played by Jessica Lee Rose.

DotComedy is an online video destination from NBC that brings a variety of humorous videos to the internet from a mixture of professional comedians and user submitted antics.

Given that NBC own the site it has a number of clips from NBC sitcoms and comedy classics like Saturday Night Live.

You’ll also find trailers and behind-the-scenes looks at comedy films, a showcase of the best viral videos on the web, original comedy shorts and digital series made exclusively for DotComedy and stand-up comedy shows from both famous comedians and unknowns.

Every now and then an internet video station pops up out of nowhere that really impresses me. Classic Car TV is one of those stations.

If you are one of those people that loves your classic cars then this video channel will have you losing even more hours to the internet.

The channel is frequently updated with videos of vintage vehicles and prestige automobiles and states that it is “the first Broadband TV magazine channel devoted to Classic cars.”

For those of you that don’t know, Jamie Oliver is a popular celebrity chef from the UK.

I recently pointed out the daily internet tech show MoBuzz TV but if that doesn’t quench your first for tech news then check out Tech Check Daily.

Tech Check Daily well ummm, checks out the latest tech news on a daily basis. It was founded by Randall Bennett last year who used to be my sort of boss for the short time I wrote for DV Guru.

It features bite-size daily programs that are just 3 minutes long and are specially filmed for the small screen. The show discusses a variety of tech related issues such as why Steve Jobs won’t drop DRM, or the Xbox 360.

MoBuzz says it presents stories for the globally-minded generation mainly talking tech, but also meeting interesting people and visiting European hotspots. The episodes are presented by Iria, Karina and Elisa.
