As a fan of documentaries, I was thrilled to find out about SnagFilms. The site claims to have “the best in documentaries” and exceeds expectations.

Where else can you (legally) watch 600+ full-length documentaries online for free?

SnagFilms is led by documentary producer Ted Leonsis and former CEO of National Geographic Rick Allen. The latter of which would explain the vast amount of content available on the site. Aside from National Geographic, Palm Pictures and PBS are just a number of big name distributors involved.

Remember the good ol’ days of MTV?

Neither do I, which is why NotMTV was created. Their catchphrase “By the fans, for the fans” remains true to those who like independent music.

NotMTV, which stands for Not Mainstream Typical Videos (most likely because they want to prevent a lawsuit), promises and delivers original content that you won’t find anywhere else on the net.

NotMTV has so much ’street cred’ that it’s sometimes even invited by bands to film. For example, new alt-rock band “The Street Drum Corps” (which will be touring with Linkin Park this summer) invited NotMTV to shoot behind the scenes footage of their new live project called “Drum Roll.”

Problems

Though there is little to complain about on NotMTV, the main matter that needs to be resolved is the download database. For example, when trying to download most videos I get “File not available for download.” Disappointing, since this is one of the main features.

Another issue is the fact that unlike YouTube you can’t view all of a director’s videos by simply clicking their name. Each video has to be searched for through. This can become a hassle, especially when a user submits a web series. Hopefully these problems will be fixed when they “update their systems.”

NotMTV Special: Listen to Hear

Above is the NotMTV original production “Listen to Hear” which focuses on the question “How loud is too loud?” when playing music on your headphones. You may be surprised at how much damage you may be doing to your ears.

Aside from mini-documentaries and interviews (which are sometimes featured on Revision3 ), there are loads of royalty-free live music downloads in virtually any format (mp4,mov, wmv, mp3). Even indie bands can submit their music for free.

BNQT also known as the Banquet Action Sports Digital Network, will keep action sport fans entertained with their countless hours of extreme sports footage. This site has it all from BMXers to some insane ski tricks.

If you just feel like kicking back and watching some pros so their thing, then be sure check out the many shows on BNQT. Hell, if you’re good enough you could even be in one of those shows.

Where Is Everybody?

Even though BNQT is full of original footage from both novices (anyone can upload their videos) and professionals, I noticed that it lacked a key element that other sites like ShredOrDie had: an active community.

If you’re looking for some interaction or for some advice with your tricks, you might want to stay away from BNQT. However, if you just like to drool at other people that skate, surf, or ski, then look no further.

I think Zach Braff is just about the coolest guy in Hollywood. I loved Garden State. I have all the Scrubs DVDs. And he has really pretty eyes. So I can understand the kind of love that’s driven this comedian to pen this ode to Zach Braff.

Today, video search engine Blinkx has launched a unique (Windows only) interactive web 2.0 application called Blinkx BBTV that does all of that for you. BBTV (short for Broadband TV) calls itself “The Future of Online Television,” but is it really all it’s cracked up to be?

It looks like Sony Pictures Entertainment is finally taking online video seriously. They’ve revamped their old Grouper site under a new name and are constantly on the lookout for the “hottest emerging talent on the web.”

By creating CRACKLE, Sony hopes to stray away from the copyright infringing past that Grouper was once associated with by placing a new agenda on original web series.

Irvine millionaire David Samuels has been relatively dormant since he sold his $250 million State of the Art software company in 1991. However, that all changed last week when he launched KoldCast.tv.

As he stated in a recent interview, “The monopoly that the major networks have held for so long is now subject to penetration by companies like our own.”

Is it just me, or is every Hollywood veteran starting an online video network? This time former UPN President Dean Valentine has created Comedy.com. Yet another video site that combines user-generated content with professionally produced web shorts.

The site has been in operation for a few months, but hasn’t really made any waves. Does the web really need another FunnyOrDie clone?

As of today, HBO will be promoting much of their content through their own YouTube channel. While this doesn’t quite mean that exclusive full episodes will be put online, it is a first step. As Joseph Giraldi, the director of partnerships states, “We are always searching for new promotional platforms.”

From the same people that brought you FunnyOrDie.com comes a new site devoted entirely to extreme sports. That’s right, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay are teaming up with some of the hottest names in skateboarding, snowboarding, motocross, surfing, and BMX.

In fact, Tony Hawk has recently blessed the site with exclusive footage.

Just when you started to like Veoh, they put a new restriction on their downloading format options; allowing only PRO users to download the original video and only letting free users save low-resolution .flv files.

In response to their many criticisms, Veoh has recently started a ‘TV Show Guide’ section that aggregates even more videos than ever. How can you be mad at that?
