Today, as you might already know, is Columbus Day for most of American citizens. For some, this day is remembered for Columbus supposedly discovering America when he set sail in 1492, for other’s it’s just a day off school.

But did you know that 22 states don’t technically celebrate the holiday? The reasons for that can be found in this news segment.

I had no idea that there was so much controversy surrounding this day. Then again, I’m not Native American and I just like to take advantage of another day off. I’m sure most people don’t really care what the day is called or why we celebrate it, they just want another holiday.

Still, it’s important to correct the one-sided history that most of us have been feed in the public education system. Christopher Columbus was no saint.
