After seeing and hearing William Shatner perform Fuck You by Cee Lo Green, I had to explore further. And oh how glad am I that I did so.
William Shatner doesn’t so much sing as he does talk, which means some songs are perfect for him to cover, while others just don’t suit him at all. But it’s the ones that don’t suit his style that invariably come out the best.
This is Shatner singing Common People by Pulp, which I’m sure you’ll agree is entertainment enough in its own right. But it’s also set over the top of the Star Trek animated series, which ups the level of awesome several notches.
The reason why Shatner’s singing, especially of modern hits he’s likely never heard before, works is because he genuinely thinks he’s talented. Someone really should tell him we’re all laughing at him behind his back.
