The White Queen is a period drama based on the novels by Philippa Gregory. It’s set in 15th-century England and, as the title surely implies, tells the story of a battle for the throne.
There is no way The White Queen would have been commissioned if Game Of Thrones hadn’t succeeded in the way it has done. That show indicated there was demand for brutally realistic period dramas.
The White Queen has enjoyed some very positive reviews. The only issue is that three expansive novels have been squeezed into just 10 episodes. Still, at least it’ll be action-packed.
