While the whole world is waiting with baited breath to see the new Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens, there’s another big science fiction franchise making its return.
Yes, Star Trek is back with a third film since J.J. Abrams rebooted the series. Unfortunately, Star Trek Beyond was directed by Justin Lin, he of The Fast and Furious fame.
I say unfortunately because the Fast and Furious movies are about as far away from the Star Trek series as it’s possible to be. They’re OK on their own, but that same action and humor style isn’t suited to Star Trek.
As you can see from the first trailer for Star Trek Beyond, this hasn’t held Lin back, and he has delivered a fast-paced action comedy version of Star Trek. God help us all.
