March 23rd, 2011 at 11:18 pmTwo and a Half Men may not be good, but it doesn’t have a laugh track. It’s performed in front of an audience. The laughing isn’t to tell you when to laugh, it’s a real audience telling the writers that they think it’s funny.
Of course we don’t have to agree with them, but there’s nothing up-to-date about performing comedy without an audience. Lots of comedy, good and bad, is performed for an audience, and you can’t have the same style and energy without it. Every comedian knows that.
