The Internet is fundamentally changing the way we communicate. From the use of emojis to text speak, language is changing at an incredible rate.

One trend that seems to be growing is people failing to use capital letters and punctuation. So, “Hello, how are you?” becomes “hello how are you”.

In this video Tom Scott argues that this is OK, and we shouldn’t worry about it. But I couldn’t disagree more.

If you’re in a WhatsApp group chat with like-minded friends then knock yourself out. But if you fail to use capital letters or punctuation when talking to me you can expect to get short shrift.
