Skid Row isn’t another funny web series designed for a light-hearted lunch break. It touches a topic that might be uncomfortable for some of us: the homeless population in America.

No, Skid Row isn’t a street in a fictional soap opera, it’s home to 9,000 homeless people.

Who knew that the largest population of homeless people in America were located in a 50 block area in downtown Los Angeles? But that wasn’t all that shocked me. I was amazed that the average homeless person in America is 9 years old; that translates to 1.35 million children nationwide.

What surprised me the most was the fact that Kenneth Cole was one of the sponsors. I guess some suits care about the homeless after all. GOOD Magazine and journalist/producer Sam Slovick really did a great job on this series, I could easily see this on 20/20.

Skid Row: Episode 1

This is the very first webisode of the five part series that gives a brief introduction of what Skid Row is. If you’re eating lunch right now and reading this, you might want to watch this after you eat. Some of these images aren’t pretty at all.
