Peter Kay Mocks The X Factor Video | Geraldine McQueen – ‘The Winner’s Song’

The X Factor is just the latest in a long line of reality television shows which work by taking ordinary members of the public and turning them in to stars… for at least five minutes.

Fed up with the preposterousness of it all, Peter Kay decided to spoof these shows with his own programme called Britain’s Got the Pop Factor and Possibly a New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly on Ice.

The winner of said spoof show was Geraldine McQueen, in reality Peter Kay in drag, and the winning song, cleverly titled The Winner’s Song, beat Leon Jackson (The X Factor 2007 winner) in the charts.

I love Peter Kay for doing this as he captured the mood of the nation in being a bit sick of the same shows week in week out. The spoof programme wasn’t actually that funny but the resulting song is brilliant.

Having said all of that, I’m still glued to the TV every Saturday watching The X Factor, and when Britain’s Got Talent rolls around again, I’ll watch that too. Sad, I know.
