Queen Ifrica – ‘Daddy’ Music Video | Is Child Abuse Really A Suitable Topic For A Pop Song?

36 sec read

I’ve seen loads of music videos in my time, some good, some bad, and some completely unintelligible. But this one, for Daddy by Queen Ifrica is certainly the most bizarre and inappropriate music video I’ve ever seen.

Child abuse is obviously a very important subject matter, and shouldn’t ever be swept under the carpet. But I’m not sure a pop song is really a suitable place to air your grievances against your father for what he may or may not have done when you were young.

The chorus of “Daddy, don’t touch me there” actually makes me laugh, and then instantly feel guilty about finding something so serious funny. I suppose it’s just the inappropriateness of it all that tickles my funny bone.

Change the lyrics and the song is actually really good but as it is, it’s in danger of trivializing a serious issue. I’m sure that wasn’t Queen Ifrica’s intention but it’s now an Internet phenomenon not for imparting great wisdom but for being funny. Oops.
