Red Dead Redemption is a new game from Rockstar, makers of the ever-popular Grand Theft Auto series. It was released on PS3 and Xbox 360 last week, and has proved to be a huge hit around the world.

To promote the game, Rockstar commissioned John Hillcoat (The Road, The Proposition) to make a short film using the in-game engine. This is the trailer for the resulting Red Dead Redemption short film.

The Red Dead Redemption short film premiered on Fox at midnight last night (Saturday, May 29). Although the full film isn’t yet available to watch online, it’s expected that it will be in time. For now, you’ll have to make do with the trailer.

This is an intriguing concept, because it could mean short films made from video games become the norm. It could also reinvigorate the Western movie genre, which hasn’t been massively popular for decades now.
