These men have a plan. Which is to let a pride of lions kill a wildebeest, and then swoop in and steal some of the meat from under their noses.
They track the lions, and when the time is right, start walking straight at them. The lions get spooked, and the humans are able to butcher the kill.
This is all a matter of confidence. If they faltered for even a second the lions would sense a weakness and quite literally pounce.
