Stunning Lunar Eclipse 2011 Video | Moon Goes Red and Disappears – Google Celebrates

This video from an Indian news channel shows the 2011 lunar eclipse happening live. This was the longest-lasting and darkest lunar eclipse of this century, with the moon changing to red before almost disappearing from view.

While the lunar eclipse was happening Google commemorated it with a new Google Doodle, those innovative changes to their logos which they throw up on the site every couple of weeks.

It’s a good job Google did because most of us wouldn’t have been able to see the lunar eclipse for real thanks to light pollution, especially in cities. And now YouTube lets us all see it in its full glory. Ah, the power of the Web.

Lunar and solar eclipses are actually quite common, but they’re mightily impressive to watch because they can remind you of the glory that is this world we live in. At least that’s the effect they have on me.
