British Olympic diver Tom Daley has come out as gay, or at least bisexual. Having dated girls in the past, and still fancying them now, he’s confessed to currently being in a relationship with a man.
Of course, Daley shouldn’t have to come out in this way. It shouldn’t matter what someone’s sexuality is, whether they’re a celebrity or not.
Unfortunately, life isn’t quite so simple, and Daley came out to prevent the press twisting his personal life into whatever sordid drama they felt would sell newspapers.
I wish more celebrities would come out, because when they do so others feel more able to stand up and be who they really are.
