The Academy Is… has split up, with the band members announcing plans to go their separate ways. To commemorate the moment of their passing here is the official music video for About A Girl.
I can’t say they were mainstream, exactly, based on the fact that I’d never heard of The Academy Is… until today. Or perhaps they just weren’t well-known outside of the U.S.
The sad thing is I actually really this track and will be seeking out more of their singles and albums on Spotify. Which suggests the reason they didn’t cross over was more publicity failure rather than a lack of quality.
The Academy Is… released three albums in eight years, which isn’t that impressive. The fact that their last full release, Fast Times At Barrington High, was released three years ago suggests they were running out of steam well before today’s announcement.
