The last male northern white rhino on Earth has died. The aged rhino, called Sudan, was euthanized as he was thought to be in a lot of pain.
This means that unless, by some kind of miracle, the last two remaining female northern white rhinos conceive, it’s the end of this particular species of rhinoceros.
While the loss of any species of animal is tragic, this is just an example of the Charles Darwin’s survival of the fittest.
The northern white rhino died out because the species’ time had come to an end. It wasn’t the first, and it certainly won’t be the last, species to die out.
