Tracey Morgan passed out at the 2012 Emmy Awards! Except he didn’t really, it was all just a prank led by host Jimmy Kimmel.
Kimmel decided to try and gain more viewers by using the power of social networking for evil. He got Morgan to pretend he had passed out on stage, and then told those watching to spread the word via Facebook and Twitter.
It worked too, with thousands of people telling their friends and followers to tune in to ABC to see what the fuss was about. Morgan was eventually led off the stage rambling to himself.
Misinformation – such as the fake celebrity death notices – is rife on social networking sites, which is why this prank worked so well.
