This video shows Debby Boone performing You Light Up My Life, a 1977 chart-topper written by Joseph Brooks. It’s relevant once again as Brooks is believed to have committed suicide in his Manhattan home.
Brooks was facing charges of committing sexual assault against 11 women, and his son Nicholas was charged with murdering his ex-girlfriend. So it’s not hard to see the reasons Brooks had for taking his own life.
I think it’s sad when anyone commits suicide, young or old, good or bad. There will be some who think he deserved this ultimate fate for the crimes he’s alleged to have committed, but now he’ll never face trial and the truth will never be revealed.
It’s probably best to just concentrate on what we know Brooks did for sure, which is to give the world one of the best-loved and most-played love songs of all time.
