Popcorn Kernel in Slow Motion (Vid) | One More Reason To Love Popcorn

28 sec read

There’s something about slow motion that’s utterly spellbinding. Maybe it’s just that slow motion tends to make situations seem more dramatic than they already are. (Think: The Baywatch theme.)

Whatever the deal with slow motion is, I absolutely adore it. If you watch this simple (and short) clip, you’ll understand why.

It involves a kernel of corn cooking and bursting into the form that we all know and love. You can actually see the transformation from boring seed to awesome snack. It looks more like a time-lapse video you would see on National Geographic of flowers blooming, than food.

I didn’t know that the kernel actually jumps before it pops, rather than after. Perhaps I should go study the physics behind pop corn. I think I’ll retire to the kitchen for experiments.
