A Monster Calls is a new movie adaptation of the novel of the same name. It’s billed as a children’s film, but there’s enough depth there for adults to enjoy it too.
A Monster Calls tells the story of Connor O’Malley, a teenager dealing with his mother dying of cancer, as well as a host of other bad stuff.
To escape the real world he draws monsters and other fantastical things. Until one day one of the monsters turns up at his bedroom window.
This clearly isn’t aimed at young children, but anyone who has experienced loss will likely wrangle some bittersweet enjoyment out of A Monster Calls.
