No, this underhand throw certainly isn’t legal in American baseball (I wouldn’t know about Japan) and the ball was just outside anyways, but who cares? The umpire and batter were in complete shock.
I’m pretty sure this video was ripped from a Japanese comedy show similar to America’s Funniest Home Videos because you can hear the laughing track in the background. The funniest part has to be the pitcher’s face after it is caught.
Who knows how long the two rehearsed that pitch, but the payoff was worth it. Now if he could only get a strike next time.
