In this 4 minute clip, a Japanese chimpanzee learns how to ride a Segway- without his owner’s help!

This video is just one of the many segments on the now-defunct Japanese show Pankun & James where this genius chimp (Pankun) and a normal dog (James) went on comedic real-life adventures such as going to the mall or farming. Sort of like MTV’s Rob & Big, but with animals.

Unfortunately, Pankun was forced by the Japanese government to return to the zoo because activists complained that it wasn’t fit for a chimp to act like a human and be exploited on TV. No doubt, it was truly a sad day when the show was cancelled.

Still, through the power of the Internet we have these moments to look back on. Even the hug at the end is priceless. The chimp looks happy to me.
