Blowtorch: Hollywood Execs’ Short-Film Site | Upload Your Short To The Big Screen?

Blowtorch

You know those short films that occasionally play before movies? Hollywood execs have teamed up and are betting that everyday people like you and me could make shorts and pitch movie ideas just as good as those snobby Hollywood majors.

Essentially, they want to take your homemade shorts to the big-screen.

With Blowtorch’s “Short Film Big Screen Challenge”, you can pitch your movie ideas and short films to the ‘big dudes in charge’ without having to deal with Hollywood egos or uncomfortable casting couches. The quality or budget doesn’t matter, just the basic idea.

”Big Screen Challenge” Promo

This is the Promo for their contest. There has already been a winner for this years contest, but the company promises to pair up their feature movies with user-generated shorts for the next three years.

Is It All Talk?

Even though Blowtorch is supposedly backed by majors and has $50 million dollars in financing, I have yet to hear about one of their own productions. In a press release they stated that their first feature film will be titled “You Are Here” starring Bijou Phillips and Danny Masterson.

The release date for it is set for sometime in Spring 2008, so why hasn’t there been any buzz about it? Is Blowtorch Ent. all talk and no walk?

Only time will tell.
