Can Mushrooms Replace Plastic? (Video) | Natural Biodegradable Styrofoam

Plastic, as I’m sure we all know, has many complications associated with waste. Sure, it’s very versatile to use, but it is also made from petroleum and not biodegradable.

In this video Eben Bayer shows how is company hopes to take on the plastic market and make it more environment friendly.

While 5 days of “growing” styrofoam may seem like a long time for companies now, in the long run it’ll help the world as whole simply because it is compostable. I was shocked to learn that EPS (expanded polystyrene plastic) which is used in most packaging will last for thousands of years.

One thing I’m surprised that Eben didn’t talk about was plates and cups. I’m sure there’s a huge market for fast-food restaurants if it would be possible.
