This video made me realize how similar emus and humans really are. The male here starts jumping around like a madman in a blatant attempt to catch her eye.

But in true feminine style, she remains disinterested. I can almost hear her thinking, “Well if you’d stop running around like a loon and come talk to me I might actually give you the time of day.”

But, like their human counterparts, male emus can be a little slow on the uptake. So rather than trying something new, he continues to perform his ridiculous mating dance to try and change her mind. Head’s up Mr Emu: it’s just not going to work.
