Tonight was Andrew Lloyd Webber night on American Idol, and I couldn’t have been happier. Here we had a timeless collection of songs full of personality. It proved to be a winning combination, and it was tough for me to decide who to showcase here.

After much deliberating I’ve opted to show you David Cook’s amazing rendition of Music of the Night. David’s earned a reputation as the competition’s token rocker, but this performance shows he’s so much more.

I’ve heard some of the greatest voices in the world tackle this song, and I was nervous about how David would compare. I was thrilled to see him stay true to the original and soar.

I expected him to change things up this week, but I’m quickly learning you should never expect anything from David Cook. He’s one of this year’s most complex characters, and it’s fascinating to see what he brings to the table each week.
