Enlightened. Schmaltzy crap? Maybe, but it also looks heartfelt and full of humor.

This is the trailer for the first season of Enlightened, a new original HBO show which features Laura Dern as a woman who has a breakdown of sorts, seeks therapy, and then tries to improve her life and the lives of those around her.

Enlightened is getting very mixed reviews. Some people love it, stating that it’s a refreshing look at life and a new kind of comedy drama. Others think it’s a complete waste of time and beneath HBO.

I haven’t yet seen the first episode, but the trailer certainly looks promising. Sure, it’s a show aimed at women more than men, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I’ll certainly be giving it a try once it reaches the U.K.
