Jake LaMotta, the boxing champion who inspired the film Raging Bull, has died of pneumonia at the ripe old age of 95. Which is a magnificent innings for someone who got beat up for a living.

This video shows ESPN remembering Jake LaMotta, taking us through his career highs and lows without sugarcoating anything that happened.

LaMotta learned to box in New York, and went undefeated as an amateur. In 1941 he turned pro, and ended his career having won 83 fights and losing 19.

In 1980 Martin Scorsese made Raging Bull, with Robert De Niro portraying LaMotta on the big screen. And LaMotta’s legacy was then sealed for all time.
