As a Brit I don’t understand why Americans listen to the national anthem before sporting events. Do it when you win something, but not just because you’re about to play ball.
However, if you insist on having someone sing the national anthem, at least choose someone who isn’t going to massacre it. Like Fergie did before the 2018 NBA All-Star Game.
This is a cringeworthy performance. Fergie is obviously trying to do her own special version of The Star Spangled Banner. But the problem she can’t sing.
People were openly laughing at her, especially when she turned “Banner” into “Banner-rer-rer-yeah-yeah-yay”. And having watched the video I really don’t blame them.
