Wow. That’s all I can say. Combat robots are hardly a new phenomenon but they’ve rather moved on since I used to watch them do battle on television. In the UK we had Robot Wars and in the States there was Battlebots. Both of which are no longer on air.

Maybe robot combat is a sport without enough fans to build a massive television audience, but after watching this Geeks Are Sexy video of a flamethrower combat robot doing battle with another robot and barbecuing it in the process, I’m interested.

Part of me wonders what the appeal is, from inventing and making these robots only to see them destroyed when another, bigger combat robot comes along and bullies it into submission. But this video ably proves why it’s a cool sport.

Japan may lead the world when it comes to robot development but America and Europe know how to use them for fun. Seeing something burn something else from the inside-out has never been so entertaining.
