New York singer-songwriter Jonathan Coulton probably couldn’t have covered a more unlikely song than Sir Mix-A-Lot’s Baby Got Back. Yet funnily enough, his folky reinvention of this hip hop classic somehow works.

What was originally a fairly sexist ode to curvy women becomes a romantic love ballad thanks to Jonathan’s tender delivery. Of course the lyrics are as lewd as ever, but that just adds to the charm.

I’m not sure what hip hop fans would make of this drastic reworking, but personally I loved it! And judging by the raucous applause and cheering in the background, Jonathan’s fans did too!
