Frankie Avalon Singing ‘Venus’ Video | The Original Version Of The American Idol Song

Last night saw Frankie Avalon, the American acting and singing legend, appear on American Idol and sing Venus. The video embedded above shows how he looked when the song originally came out in 1959. He was a bit of a looker in those days.

Why was Frankie Avalon on American Idol? Because the theme of the show was songs released in the year the contestants were born. Clearly none of them were born in 1959 but Simon Cowell, chief judge and sometime executioner, was. Which means he is going to be 50 this year.

Avalon looks great for his age (70) and has obviously kept in tip-top shape over the years. Cowell, on the other hand, doesn’t look great but then he never did. He wears his trousers high to hide his bulging waistline and has had the full range of surgery to make him look even half-decent enough for prime-time American television.
