Republican Fred Thompson will announce his presidential candidacy through an online video via YouTube, Robert Novack reports. Novack added that the idea initially stemmed from icon Newt Gingrich.

I hate politics. I love YouTube. The fact that these two elements are now being mixed is beyond my understanding.

When did politicians find it necessary to reach their public through internet video? This decision by Thompson simply reinforces the fact that our society has become heavily reliant upon the world wide web.

I suppose Thompson (and Gingrich) deserve a pat on the back for branching out into internet television. However, I still don’t want to browse YouTube for political reasons. That just seems like blasphemy.
