Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, and American Idol winner Taylor Hicks did a brilliant cover version of the ‘worst song in the world’ on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
Yes, it appears Friday by Rebecca Black is here to stay, for a few more weeks at least.
What’s amazing about this performance is how it improves the song. The lyrics are still utterly banal, but this does at least prove that with a better arrangement Friday isn’t all bad. Did I really just say that? I’m pretty sure that means I’m going to hell.
The way to look at Friday is as a joke, a diversion, a cultural blip. That way you don’t get all riled up thinking about the injustice that means this became a hit. And it helps when comedians mock it in this way.
