Yeah, things are exaggerated (a little) but I can definitely see this happening if the internet were to go down. As in THE internet. Worldwide.

I’m someone who pays bills with the work I do on the internet, so, needless to say, I would be upset if the internet went down. Now imagine that times the millions of people who also pay some (or all) bills with what they make off the net. Scary.
