Ricky Gervais hosted the 2016 Golden Globes, and, as is his way, he upset a few people with his jokes. He wasn’t even particularly scathing this time around, but the current level of political correctness means every word has the capacity to offend these days.
The one joke some people thought was distasteful was the one about Caitlyn Jenner. But even that was pretty mild.
Gervais didn’t mock Bruce Jenner for coming out as a woman, but mocked her for being involved in a car crash which killed one person and injured several others. How is that transphobic?
Comedians tell jokes. That’s why we like them. And who cares if the odd joke offends someone, somewhere. Especially if that someone, somewhere is a celebrity in need of bringing back down to Earth.
