Archaeologists have discovered the remnants of another, larger, stone circle close to Stonehenge. This ancient monument has been dubbed Superhenge.
This video predates the discovery, but makes mention of Stonehenge being much larger than previously thought.
Unlike the Pyramids in Egypt, which were built at around the same time as Stonehenge, we don’t actually know who built this monument, and why.
It could have been used as a religious shrine, with humans being sacrificed to the deities. It could have a calendar charting the position of the Sun. It could have been a burial ground for the rich and powerful.
We’ll probably never know the truth, but the discovery of Superhenge opens up even more possibilities.
