Japan Has World’s Shortest Escalator Video | And You Thought Americans Were Lazy

30 sec read

Seriously, five steps?! Here I thought we Americans had practice of being lazy down to an art form, but apparently the Japanese have us beat in at least one category.

This elevator in Kawasaki More’s department store in Japan holds the world record for being the world’s shortest escalator.

If I ever manage to run into an escalator that’s only 2.73 feet high, I’m pretty sure I’d jump it just maintain my dignity. My theory is that the building designers put this useless escalator in just to spite people. Why else would they have stairs next to them?

I can just imagine the inside joke at the meeting, “Hey I bet you if I put a 5-step-escalator next to 5 steps of stairs most people would still take the escalator.” And, as you can clearly see from this video, this is sadly true.
