After months of speculation, Jon and Kate Gosselin have announced their legal separation on their reality TV show, Jon and Kate Plus 8.

The couple split after ten years of marriage and the birth of their 8 children, eight-year-old twins and five-year-old sextuplets. They lodged divorce papers on Monday.

It’s a sad end to a marriage which has been through so much, but it looks like it’s no end for their popular reality TV series. The separation announcement episode was viewed by more than 10 million Americans, and the TLC network is keen to continue the show.

The program will take a one month hiatus to allow the family to recover before the spotlight shines on them again. I’m sure the parents are delighted to continue the cash cow, but I can’t help worrying about those eight young children.

Divorce is tough at the best of times, and can’t be any easier when it’s played on in front of the cameras.
