This video clip is from the Secret Policeman’s Ball, a charity comedy event. It shows David Armand doing his Karaoke for the deaf comedy set.
David actually appears as Johann Lippowitz, an Austrian dance artist in the skit, as he interprets the Natalie Imbruglia hit ‘Torn‘ for the deaf or hard of hearing.
I think it’s the facial expressions which actually make this hilariously funny, and I’ve seen the same guy do other hits, but ‘Torn‘ is the original and best.
What makes this one different than the rest of the clips is the special guest who joins him on stage half way through the clip.
I give credit to Natalie Imbruglia for agreeing to appear, as the comedian is in essence taking the piss out of her song.
I’d love to know what deaf people actually think of this, as although it’s a comedy sketch it must bring the song to life somewhat for those people who are hard of hearing.
